I actually prefer the buttons on the RB strat by a huge margin, and while the strum bar feels somewhat fragile, I really don't like the clicky GH strum bars much. Over a large sample, I seem to lose about 2%-3% because the buttons are bit harder to locate during complicated parts and because on fast strums (where you have to alternate up and down strumming) all my GH's seem to lose more.

I haven't check out the network stuff but I really might have to. I would love some more cool songs. Hopefully prices will not be crazy. It would even be fun to see professional RB bands that basically have normal gigs but really work this network angle.

BIG NEWS (for me)! I finally FC'd and Gold-Starred a song. Only "Hungry Like the Wolf", but it was cool! I have gotten 100% a few times in the past, but never with the gold stars.

It is pretty much an automatic win a free song. The list of songs you can pick from is pretty large, but it isn't everything. Just found a bottle cap on the ground today which I took of course. Ship a free song.

I think they have a certain number of songs they give out each day, but recently the contest has got more popular.

I've only seen it on Pepsi, but have heard it might be on Mountain Dew. Just look for the Rock Band logo on the bottle cap.

Have played the Pepsi promotion game four times so far, won it just three though, so it certainly isn't handing out a free game every time. I will expand my sample shortly though, especially if this starts showing up on Mountain Dew caps because, like dkgo, I could drink that stuff ALL day!

chicken10der - are you using a stock drum set? I just got drums a couple months ago and steadily increased at skill until tougher hard songs/expert where the amount of bass notes and double kicks is just too much for me to keep up with.

i have a stock rb2 kit. only thing i've done to it is taking off the gray plastic rims around the pads.

you will get better just by playing more and harder songs, but there will be temporary plateau points and times where you actually are getting better but so slowly that you don't really notice. i remember it took me forever to be able to do 3 kicks in a row, i'd try all kinds of different methods, but then one day they just became automatic.

i've been playing for almost a year, and there are several sequences that i still can't get down. but i keep getting a little better. i just got 5* on panic attack yesterday.

Finally decided to give expert guitar a shot, and got my first gold star! Probably one of the easiest songs, but I'm happy:

LOL, that's bad. But that's just a difficult song made even more difficult. Red Hot seems like an 3-4 star difficulty (on the Rock Band rating system) made an 5+ difficulty. The notes seem to have nothing to do with what RHCP drummer is actually playing.

I have actually FC'd and 100% numerous songs on Expert now, probably like 10 or 11 total (mostly guitar, but I have done a few on bass as well). I could definitely do more but I am already tired of the novelty and now I am just playing more to play, mostly goofing off on the harder material.
