I won on Fall Mountain the day the game came out. It was my 2nd time to ever play. Got super lucky as everyone including myself sucked. I was the 3rd to make it the crown and grabbed it. Now I can't win a final round to save my life.

Unfortunately the competition has gotten a lot harder as people have more experience and there's youtube strategy videos on literally every single game. I'm right around 15 crowns, but majority are on Fall Mountain.

PS Store has a pretty good sale going now through Oct14. I just picked up Witcher 3 ($12), Blasphemous ($10) and MGS5 Deluxe (Phantom Pain + Ground Zero + all DLC) ($8). I haven't played any of them, I know they're old but psyched for the haul.

Edit: I went poking around reddit to read what others bought on the sale, and went back and added Timespinner ($10) and Odallus ($4), both 80%+ metacritic metroidvanias. I'm pretty darn pleased with myself right now.

Quick follow up that if you're a big fan of SOTN, Timespinner is very much worth your $10. The art and story aren't very similar, but the gameplay, controls, mapping/exploration, combat and soundtrack are all like an homage to that game. This game feels like SOTN's granddaughter. I've really enjoyed the 5 or 6 hours I've put in today. It's been really fun exploring the new world that feels so much like Drac's castle.

84/100 on Metacritic, just 10 reviews though. Lower score from users but the scores seem to be getting dragged down from people complaining about the game's feminist progressive agenda, which 5 hours in seems to me to consist of the protagonist being female.

Strongly recommend Blasphemous, it’s awesome. It’s pretty much 2D Dark Souls.

Of course, it is an insane idea to consider any of PSN party chat, Discord, Slack, anything to do with Microsoft so Skype, XBL, Teams etc. private and/or secure. Of course they are not, not in the slightest!

Use Signal if you want privacy.

Has anyone tried the HBO Max app on PS4? It's almost unusably bad. Very slow, and crashes more than once an hour on average when watching things. This is on a Pro.

Disney+ had problems earlier this year (haven't used it since) but not this bad.

Netflix the gold standard.

I have a PS4 Pro and can't recall having any serious issues with HBO Max. At least nothing that's persisted through closing the app and restarting it. I think I've had to do that at least twice since the app came out.

My wife would have mentioned if something was wrong with the Friends machine.

I have issues with the Hulu app. Where's the show info that tells you who the cast members are? Also, why is their selection indicator above the text? We've got two profiles, and if the second profile is selected, the little indicator bar shows up between the two names. This is non-standard and I don't like it.

Interesting, does it at least load slowly for you (any screen switch, selecting an episode or a season etc. there's a few seconds to load)? Wonder if my HD is too full or something (don't know what it's at).

My trial is over now anyway but last week it was still crashing at least once per movie. By "crashing" I mean the "Oops, something went wrong" overlay comes on, but the movie is still playing in the background and seems fine. If you press Okay it actually stops, but then I think app restart is required.

Anyone buying the PS5 on opening day?

I preordered from Amazon before they went on sale thanks to a friend who has some serious skill finding things like that. A little while later I got an email from Amazon saying that they’re hoping to have it in stock on release day. I’m kind of up in the air on whether I’ll have it on day 1, but I hope so.

There are a few launch games I’m interested in but nothing I feel like I have to play. The Last Of Us 2: Online is the only game I HAVE to have, but no idea when that’s coming out. That would the only game I’d consider going scalper on a PS5 if mine was delayed. Cyberpunk 2077 is very high on my list but perhaps not an essential. Horizon Zero Dawn 2 would be essential but that’s probably a ways away.

I’ll get the PS5 when I get it. I’m cool with whenever.

Yes, though opening day is a week late in UK. Got a disc-drive version preordered on Amazon, got lucky getting an accurate customer service response saying they would go live at 9am (some 8 hours after Game, Smyths / other main shops had sold out) and got my order in during the few minutes they were available. Even in that short time it's hit #10 best seller for the year so far in PC & Video games, insane.

Looks like my original order from September held and I just got it!!!

Plugged it all in, signed on and that was about all that it took. Now I just have to download all the games. So far, it’s smoooooooth!! Haven’t played anything yet to test the controller but I’m looking forward to it.

Play Astro’s Playroom first. It is such a fun way to introduce the controller and the bells and whistles of it. I’m geeking out pretty hard over the new system so far.

Starting Demon’s Souls now. Also still have a big backlog including but not limited to FFVII, UC4, GoT, and Detroit. Had been playing my XBox One X (whatever the top of the line was before the new gens released) - so pretty happy with my purchase.

Question for those with the PS5.

I currently have a 1080p TV. I do plan on getting a 4k one some time in the future.

Should I still get a PS5 (if I can find one in stock) before then?

So what are you all playing? Lots of Demon’s Souls here mixed in with stuff I never played on my Pro, namely FFVII and Uncharted 4. Couldn’t really get into Detroit - have played most of the other stuff in the collection. The little bit of Genshin Impact I’ve played is pretty cool despite being a basic outright BotW ripoff from what I’ve seen so far. Probably restart Bloodborne at some point as well, as I think it’s 60 FPS now.

Watch Dogs Legion I’ve played a good amount of. It’s not nearly as engaging as the first 2 WD’s but it’s okay. Thought I’d play more of it but for an open world game, it’s pretty lacking in stuff to do.

Mostly, I’ve been playing Yakuza: Like A Dragon. I played Yakuza 0 a month or so ago and it my introduction to that series. It’s batshit insane but quite a fun time. Those games can also last forever if you want them to.

I’m really just (im)patiently waiting for Tlou2: Online but who knows when that will come out....
