Hi,

I am going to buy a PS3 in the next couple of weeks and was planning on just hooking it up to one of my Samsung Syncmaster monitors.

However, I just realised that there is no audio output on the monitors.

Can I buy speakers for the ps3 seperately or use my pc speakers and is there an audio output on the ps3?

Thanks

If you still have the monitor hooked up to a computer with a relatively new sound card, you can do what I do:

Use the a/v (red-and-white) cables that come with the PS3. Buy an adapter for a couple bucks at Radio Shack that reduces them to a standard headphone jack. Plug the headphone jack into the video input jack on your sound card, then manage the PS3 sound using your computer speakers. I suppose there are sound cards that have the a/v inputs, in which case you wouldn't need the reducer. I also think there's a digital sound adapter on the PS3, but I can't remember for sure.

If the monitor is not hooked up to a computer, then, yeah, you'll need to hook it up to something with speakers. Also, don't forget to change the audio settings in the PS3 menu so that you can output your sound and video to different places.

Or (alternative option), invest what you would spend on speakers on a good PS3 gaming headset. Then you won't need speakers, unless you're playing with irl friends.

Or, assuming you don't live in Burundi, you could just go to the nearest electronics store.

Found it on Amazon

FYI:

I have a Syncmaster 2253 with a resolution of 1650x1050 and I had problems properly displaying the video output.

Whenever the PS3's output changed resolution (going form menu to a game or a dvd, for instance) the monitor gave an error message that had to be 'clicked' away via the monitor controls, which made the PS3 practically unusable.

I took the 'opportunity' and upgraded my monitor...
