Yes. Flame totem, faster projectiles, faster casting, iron will, added chaos damage. The totem does 3 projectiles by itself now, and there's a jewel that adds more too. Maybe it'd help with clear speeds, but I doubt it - the biggest problem is the rares with fire resist & immune to curses and we can't shotgun any more.

7.9k is with a 19 flame totem by the way, but the other gems are lower. Seems likely that 10k+ is doable with 20s, let alone 21s. I think this is viable in late maps now, albeit boring as you are squishy if you let anything get close. Not as boring as 100 dominus runs a day though.

Oh, Yeah I forgot FT is different in the Beta.

I'm rockin lvl 18 FT, Faster Casting, GMP, Iron Will, Fire Pen, and added chaos and I got like 2.2k DPS. I'll have to see what I get without GMP but my god everything MELTS.

Wish I had a quality FT because they die pretty quickly.

Totems are a lot tougher in the beta, though I have the unique jewel that gives them +3% life per 10 strength allocated in its radius. It's kind of unnecessary, having 1% fire leech on the weapon is what makes a big difference.

Last regular server I used a fire doryani's invitation to get it so that I could maximise totem DPS. I had 2.5k dps on a 5 link there I think (can't check as I don't have regular game installed any more, just the beta), with fire pen rather than added chaos.

Checked my DPS without GMP and no Faster Proj = 2.4k (with gmp) -> ~4.4k without. **** just melts though with GMP.

I'm sure we're comparing apples to oranges though because the skill is way different now in beta.

Yeh, the gem is way different now. I didn't get any higher than you have on regular servers after probably a lot more play, albeit with 5L compared to 6L.

Really loving that you can buy the skill gems from vendors(the one selling wands/rings), they are located on page 2. After doing chamber on act 2 I got triple Heralds lol
On act 3 now, you can get most of the curses/auras for 1 alt each.

Not max block, but going for some crit, with assassin's mark and +1 max power charge from bandits. Stats looked pretty decent, we don't commit to any weapon type and get 5 jewel sockets
No idea if it will be good tho

I'm a current (possibly former?) Diablo player, but I downloaded PoE and started up a character. First off, I love the huge tree of abilities to choose from, and the idea that skills are socketed and leveled up. Both of these things seem strictly superior to D3.

I'm not too worried about creating a 'good' character from the start -- I'll just play to play and get accustomed to everything. However, quick question about progress and endgame: does the leveling slow down immensely? I thought I read that getting to 100 isn't really the start of endgame -- true?

I'm tempted to ask a million other questions about good skills, pros and cons to classes, etc, but I know I could probably just google any or all of this to get answers. Still, any perspective people want to share is welcomed. Has anyone repeatedly burned out on the game, and what either (1) causes it, or (2) causes you to come back to the game?

The levelling slows down immensely, but you're still progressing anyway (at least until you have 21 gems). Most characters can be "finished" in the low 90s.

The endgame effectively starts in the mid 60s, when you can do maps. Maps are one-off instances which you can roll different mods that change the way they work each time.

Most skills can be made to be decent, so it depends what kind of character you want to play. There's a HUGE amount of depth though, and you'll need a lot of that to make mediocre skills work well. On the plus side, there's no real difference between the classes except where you begin in the tree and what rewards you get from quests. The latter will be mitigated a lot by the beta being released too.

I burn out from repeating the same stuff again and again as it's more efficient. If you just plan to run maps that's less of a problem though. I come back as the content changes pretty regularly/you come up with new ideas for a character. There's a lot of replayability.

What is the point of a beta key? It seems like I was able to just create an account an log right in -- did they change something recently to allow for that?

Or is there something different about the game I was playing as opposed to the beta version?

Yes the beta is very different. They are testing it for the expansion(june/july release)

It has a significantly different skill tree more items/skills/features and a whole new act.

You have to download a separate game client to play the beta if you have a key.

Man, that's some dog**** - Alch a 74 Canyon, get decent mods, start running it, kill the exiles and invasion mob and go back to hideout to bank the loot, go to tp back in and it keeps telling me an unexpected disconnection occurred. RIP 74 map

don't worry about the beta, practice either in standard/hardcore or 1 month league (preferably softcore as the mods are rather deadly)
