I take handhelds on my train commute to work. It's not massively common but I see a few people, and I pick up a fair few streetpasses just going to and from work on a commuter train.

I gotta say, it is very tempting. Though I find €329 (here in Europe) simply a bit too steep tbh. I was expecting and hoping €250.

Nintendo is simply screwing the West. In Japan, it is ¥24980, which is just shy of €247. THAT is what it should cost, not €329, FFS, stop shafting us. And Japan is an expensive country (been there myself), and a survey showed that 62% of Japanese gamers thought the Switch was overpriced (if even slightly). How are we supposed to feel??

And that's not to talk about the ludicrously priced accessories. €70 for a Pro controller, seriously? The Joycon controller doesn't come with a D-pad, so games like the new Shovel Knight have been confirmed to control like crap on the out-of-the-box Switch. PLUS they're charging for online now...
So essentially, it's a €400 system (that I CAN take anywhere I want, hook up on the TV, play it on a small screen using the kickstand; and it has 2 controllers with HD rumble. Let's not forget the good).

I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that the Wii U didn't support Dolby at all. Nintendo are all about cutting costs so that they don't lose money on a console launch.

I mean people can call the Wii U a failure all they want but Nintendo still made a profit on it as well as selling millions of copies of software.

Just looked it up and Switch doesn't support Dolby or DTS either. Nintendo clearly doesn't want to pay the license. If you want surround then your receiver needs to support PCM which is a pain in the ass.

I mean my Xbox 360 plays Netflix seamlessly and that came out like 9 years ago, can't be that hard for Nintendo to get up to snuff with this stuff, they just don't want to. Your post along with El Kabong's together make sense though.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding consoles, but isn't their responsibility just to make an API available to any app developer who wants their product to run on Switch?

Like, the app dev can be from Netflix or Hulu or hbo go or twitch or anything else, and they're all able to use the same API, no extra cost to Nintendo, just extra revenue. (Assuming they'll open an API so devs can make switch apps)
