Anyone else planning on starting off rolling a monk? I am trying to go heavy on the AoE/crowd control as I'll be playing a lot with a group of friends. Still trying to figure out whether to focus on two-handed or dual wield. Post any cool spec you come up with here, once the game goes live I'll going to play around with good farming builds.

Im going to go monk first, the passive "one with everything" makes all your resistances equal to your highest seems like money for being a broke character in the higher difficulties, to bad its lvl 45 though. Ive always liked shield builds, maybe ill go with a tanky thorns build i dunno yet.

First build I was screwing around with. I really like the idea of combo'ing exploding palm with seven-sided strike, seems like it makes for sick damage that will have a chain reaction effect.

Started a monk but have no idea about talents etc, am dual-wielding and am around lvl 10

at level 12, dual wielding and using fist of thunder. stuff is still easy enough to kill that it is hard to figure out which skills work best

also so far every staff i have found is way worse than just dual wielding

Yeah I'm up to lvl 21 now and still dual-wielding, stacking dexterity/dmg along the way.

Switching out spells with each level as I get different runes.

I just got cyclone strike, i thought it would be terrible but it combo so well if you focus on sweeping attacks.

The ability to teleport behind and stun bosses makes them a joke for the Monk in normal difficulty.

Dual wielding is better than a big ass shield?

I actually like shields more but it depends on how close my 2 weapons are. If one is by far better then I go with shield.

I was dual wielding 2 fist weapons for a while, and now I'm dual wielding 2 rare swords. I never find myself using staffs.

yeah im running dual wield.. rarely get hurt much and when i do i got the heal skill with holy dmg rune and templar healing specced. better to speed up the leveling.
i dont see going 2h on the other hand

Ya, I don't think the loss to armor is worth the little gain to dps. I'm using a sword that ups my attack speed and he looks like a Cuisanart with the fist of 100 hits going.

Seems like I play monk different from everyone else. Everyone is into synergy, I prefer flexibility. Spamming the same 3 combo move just feels boring to me.

I use what I got available but haven't found a secondary weapon to make up for the shield. Am looking for a two handed weapon to see how that looks, cool enough looking may make it playable...

Granted I'm only level 21 but I've never even equipped a shield :X dual wield 4 life brah

why be flexible just for the sake of it? ill do that in hell difficulty.. no point in messing arund when i can instagib groups with exploding palm and seven sided strike

My impression so far is dual wield is such little damage increase I'd rather have the little extra defense. A good shield with some dex does well for me.

Though I am playing in HC and I have been using all the skills that give me life and whatnot. I use the heal spell, the invulnerability spell, the blind spell, and then my right click is the spin around knock back spell...

Its been really easy so far (only in a3 norm) but I still dont want to risk dieing.

I am using a 2hander because I found a +39 dexterity pole-arm that must have just been a really high role because I haven't found anything that does even close to that damage

the 2 handers i find.. even yellow does less dmg than my 1 handed blue axe

I've been using a 1 handed claw deally that has +damage and +dex, I've had it from like lvl 16 and now I'm 25 and haven't found anything better. I ran two claw dealies for a while but the shield was so close in damage with a little extra protection.

the engine, setting, artstyle is just amazing .. but the variety of loot is so poor.. been reading up on diii.net and sets and legendaries got no interesting stats. legendaries are often just really good rares, but without unique properties. cant see myself playing this to death like d2 if they dont add some more interesting items

On normal, monk can instagib groups just holding down RMB. At least for me, though I forget what skill I put on rmb. I beat both the act 1 and act 2 bosses by standing still and holding down rmb with lifesteal weapons (in a 2 player game).

When I played d1 the hell mod recently, the items were so much more interesting than this. Uniques with negative effects for example. Like reducing your armor to 0 but maxing out all resists, or lose all regen but double mana cap. I know gear like that is tough to balance, but it just makes using different gear so much more fun.
All the gear I've found so far are just stat modifiers.
