Gold is essentially useless. I believe best thing to use to use it for is automated minerails

I ****ing hate gold. I use it for powered rails and shovels/axes, **** that i dont mind making a ton of and running out quickly. It infuriates me how much harder it is to find than iron and its totally worthless

There are only two really useful uses for gold: powered rails and healing potions. They are also used for night vision potions.

In tools and swords, iron lasts 7 times longer than gold, so you basically never want to make tools out of gold. Heck, even wood tools last nearly twice as long as gold.

For tools, diamond is the best because it lasts 6 times longer than iron. But for armor, diamond only lasts twice as long as iron, so I usually just use iron armor.

Tornadoes will do damage to any structure in its path while earthquakes will alter the terrain with shifting blocks. If your structure is above a cavern, that cavern will fill in. Anything above that will shift down. Also, there will be wildfires that will spread out and the only way you can stop it is by digging out a perimeter at least one block lower, like a dirt trench. Anything on the same level or higher will be vulnerable, but the fire can never go lower.

Then after that we will be able to mine for very, very, very rare ores that will be able to be used for weapons of mass destruction and then you can nuke your enemies. Then eventually there will be a minecraft economy where we can buy and sell, trade, or barter ores, wheat, food, weapons, etc. It will be a completely free market. Then there will be recessions. People will mine for others like slaves. Then one person who plays this game nonstop and accumulates the vast majority of wealth will become a dictator and will eventually create a mass genocide of his slaves in an attempt to rule the world. Those who are not near this dictator will be aware of the problems on the other side of the MinecraftEarth due to an ingame news reporting system. Then, they will gather together and travel to this destination in an attempt to take down the dictator and take control of his WMD to disable it, break it up into its component parts. All of these people who took down the regime will all hold one piece of the WMD so that it cannot be pieced back together unless everyone is taken down and the pieces are reclaimed.
Did this happen yet?

I'm pretty sure I was purposefully rambling on about nothing. I can't even remember why I typed that.

Any Xbox people want to help me with some redstone? I just want to add a button to the outside and inside wall that will open my front doors so I can use iron ones, but I want to hide the dust underground. I can't figure out how to make it work.

Go to level 12 . Mine rows 3 blocks apart. Called strip mining. Make sure ur at level 12 as that is the same level lava pools spawn.so they are easier to avoid

You found a mushroom island biome. The cows are Mooshrooms. If you try to milk a mooshroom with a wooden bowl, you'll get mushroom stew instead of milk. (Though they still provide milk if right clicked with a bucket.) If you shear them, they will give you mushrooms and turn into regular cows.

The giant mushrooms are, well, giant mushrooms. That's the only place giant mushrooms can grow, but you can get them to grow anywhere as long as you plant the mushrooms in mycelium.

Mycelium is the brownish ground found on the mushroom island instead of grass. You can only get mycelium if you have a tool enchanted with silk touch.

The pieces should have dropped regular sized mushrooms when you harvested them.

If you put a button on the block next to an iron door, it will operate the door without any redstone.

Bring a crafting table to your mining spot and some planks. Make signs to label areas.

On Hard, I believe Zombies can actually break wooden doors, so your front door should be iron.

Otherwise, just do what was recommended here earlier, make sure there are no blocks and make sure that your house is well lit so the monsters don't spawn inside your house.

BTW, the 1.5 pre-release for PC is scheduled to come out tomorrow.

I've played around with it, but haven't bothered installing it on my main computer. But it's probably the biggest update in quite a while. It's called the "Redstone update" because of all the new redstone changes, including the redstone block, comparators, hoppers, droppers, daylight sensors, and pressure plates. Also new is the quartz blocks. They've also buffed the enemies, who are now more powerful.

I'm still running 1.4.4 because they fixed (broke?) the sand generators in 1.4.6 and I wanted to get a bunch of sand before I upgraded. I now have 12 double chests full of sand, so I guess I'm safe for now.

I'm probably going to end up getting Feed the Beast. But I'll live with vanilla for the next few weeks. I am getting bored with my world so it'll probably be sooner rather than later.

As proof of how bored I am with Minecraft, the last few projects I've done were completely superflous builds that I just did for the sake of doing it: a skeleton spawner, a blaze farm, a new house, re-doing the lighting in my main cave.

why not upgrade to FTB now?
Minecraft Quote

You're right. I can still play my vanilla world and FTB. Gonna download FTB tonight.

I guess what's scared me away from it is that there are a ton of resources for figuring out how to do things on vanilla, not as many for FTB. But that's part of the fun, I guess.

There are wikis for all the major mods, and i'm sure there are some nice guides too.

At first it's all a bit too much, but you quickly get the hand of hit.

Yeah, what scared me about Feed the Beast is that I watch many of Ethos vanilla videos. But I'd never seen a FTB video of his. So I randomly tried to watch one. He's flying with a jetpack and has some kind of automated mining system that gives him items. It was really confusing. Maybe I should start with his FTB video #1.

So which FTB mod should I start out with.
