Who here has played this? I used to nerd out on this back in middle school and high school....it's pretty sad that I can still remember how to get to certain places (n,n,n,n,n,n,n,n,w,w,w,n,n,n,go man).

Anyway, I am considering starting up a board for fun and am wondering if there would be any interest from the 2p2 community.

I bet the # of people that ever played any individual MUD is pretty small here. I used to play one called Vampire Wars a lot back in HS.

I was thinking the same thing. I'd be surprised if even bigger ones had playerbases >10k, and I think there would be very few like that (although perhaps some of the old school BBS kings could set me straight here.)

MUDding was fun, though, and was already addictive enough to teach me to stay way the hell away from the Everquests and WoWs of the world.

OK, lets turn this into a general MUD thread. I played Kaos MUD, Renegade Outpost, Temporal Rifts, all DikuMUD variants.

Oh and it was the most fun you could have without graphics

I play gizmo mud and used to play its sister ronin mud (still have stuff on there and drop in from time to time). Both were spawns of Imperial DikuMUD (or supergirl).

Vampire Wars was based on GodWars, which was based on Merc.

It went open source a couple years after I started playing it and volunteering as a coder on it wound up being the first semi-serious programming project I ever took on. I learned a TON from that. Very fun.

I played Fed WAAY back in the day on AOL, which was awesome, until they started charging to play. I then played a more standard D&Desque one for a while.

Fed? or do you mean Fred as in FredMUD?

Fed, short for federation. It was space oriented with ranks. First you do little ****, then you buy a ship, then you do commodity runs, if you're real awesome you can buy a planet.

gotcha - i feel like games were so much better designed then, simpler and focused on gameplay.... can't find anything worth playing anymore. perhaps i'm just getting old

I played a lot of mud's back then. I remember going to my local public libraries and using their computers to telnet to different muds. This was before those monitors supported ANSI coloring haha.

I played Vampire Wars, Creeping Death, and another godwars variant called 'The Gathering'.

I've been looking for another mud to hop on for fun that has some WoW like features, like raiding etc.

I had a million different names cause I kept getting banned, I think Quacky, Kryo, and Biff (all Malkavians ldo) were the three biggest characters I developed.

goofyballer, I don't remember much of my time in Vampire Wars, although I knew of two guys who lived in San Francisco and was playing when I was playing, one who's character was called Makaveli and another called Kevin I believe.

Funnest thing from Vampire Wars was me winning an admin quest which invovled finding some sword in smurf village. Apparently at the time that sword was suppose to be pretty beefed; it was called the sword of io I think.

lol, I remember Ios, they were the 2nd best weapon in the game for a long time. Both those names sound vaguely familiar to me, Makaveli was before my time a bit (I was playing, like, 1999-2003?), I think I only ever saw him log on on rare occasions. I think I remember Abel becoming the 2nd guy to make Hero and then Makaveli logging back on to fight him and getting ****ed up but it was so long ago I'm prob messing up the details.
