I think cards will appreciate, although it depends how the P9 are released. They might also do another Masters event with the release which will push prices back down. I think any staples of the format can be counted on for value. Dual land, Mana Drain, Mishra's Factory, Force of Will and Null Rod all seemed primed for speculation. Jace might see a bit of a bump too, and is a good speculation target because he's never going down in price.

I think you should splash Blue for Cyclonic Rift, Voidwielder, and Dramatic Rescue. Do not use Cyclonic Rift without overload unless you'd lose the game otherwise. There are a few exceptions I guess, and most of them revolve around preventing populate/dealing with Pack Rat. Cut Selesnya Sentry, Archweaver, and either Korozda Monitor or Concordia Pegasus. I'd swap in two Islands for one of each basic land. Gatecreeper Vine is not very good in 2 color decks unless you are on Defender.dek btw.

Aren't the P9 only in cube?

In the P9 Cube announcement they said that they are aiming to have them as playable cards some time in 2013, and that the long delay between launching mtgo and making these cards available is because they've been trying to find the right way to release them. Check the letter from Chris Kiritz at the end of this article.

absolutely need to play ultimate price and stab wound(or rift/wielder), corpsejack menace and trestle troll likely too(corpse like 95%, troll like 70%)

worst cards in your deck, archweaver(meh, I think stag is a tiny bit better and neither are anything special), korizoda monitor(god it's crazy how far creatures have come when a hill giant with an upside sucks now), rootborn defenses(just not populating that often), concordia pegasus(troll basically does the same thing but blocks better, a 1/3 sucks at blocking in this format), 2nd azorius arrester(way better in aggro azorius decks than selesnya)

I think the black is better than rift, voidwielder, blustersquall but I could be wrong, part is having the gate which helps a decent amount.

slumreaper is also an option it's good with the gatecreeper vines

I think I am green/black and splashing blue and white? Maybe all 5.

Managed to 5-0 my ptq yesterday and double ID into 9th. Final round setup is 4 16's and 9 15's, get paired against the lowest 16 with me being agead of him with I think a 3% difference in OMW%, he's willing to draw and I don't hold when the paired down 15 wins. Given that first lets me play there's a good arguement for not drawing either time.

Never been to a ptq where x-0-2 doesn't auto top 8

There were 127 runners, so a full 7

This is why an X-0-2 didn't make it. At 128 players, it would have turned into an 8 round tournament. The closer the amount of players gets to the next round, without going over, means more weird stuff happens like an X-0-2 not making it.

Even then, everything had to break just right with a pull up winning for this to happen.

Yeah, at 7+ rounds tournaments to the threshold only way to be in 100% is X-1.
Anyone going to GP London or GP Utrecht?

Almost certainly going to GP London.

Anybody started testing Modern for the PTQ season yet? The first PTQ here is next weekend, and it's probably my best shot to qualify since being in a remote area + a few days before Christmas should keep attendance low. Most of my brews have been losing to Jund so I'll probably just jam UR Tron.

Just my 2 cents but I would definitely splash black. We have 2 gatekeepers to fetch out either a swamp or the guildgate and we have axebane guardian. You have no removal outside of combat tricks and you don't have nearly the amount of bombs to make up for this fact so splashing black for the removal is crucial.

What to cut and what to put in is a question though. First cards I'd cut would be swift justice and archweaver (for ultimate price and stab wound). I would also cut the sentry (or chorus of might) for deathrite shaman (note, I've never played with the card in limited, just seems like it's a pretty good stay alive answer till you draw collective blessing).

I think I would have been greedy in playing the corpsejack menace, trestle troll and rites of reaping.. but really unsure what to cut to get those.

How much of a % edge do you think playing first gives you in this scenario?

Was 4-1 in the PTQ with decent breakers, then punted game 2 of round 6. Have ~70%+ equity if I play it correctly. Went on to lose game 3.

5-2 now, have a poor aggro deck.

Bugstud and I will be going to GP Indy, anyone else going?

I think I will be going to GP Charlotte and GP Pittsburgh. They are both Gatecrash sealed so I'm hoping to get a few test runs in on MTGO before it. Not sure if the 3-4 weeks after release is enough time for it to get online though. Weren't they supposed to speed up the process of getting new online sets soon?

P1P1: Teleportal isn't a bad pick, but I'd still pick Detention Sphere. Removal is always nice and Azorius is my fav guild. Teleportal has won me a bunch of matches outright though so it's fine. Best as a splash in Rakdos since Izzet generally sucks.

P1P3: I'd rather have the flier than a worse Teleportal.

P1P6: Goblin Rally is solid. Off color keyrunes aren't too good, and you're not seeing any white coming at all.

P1P7: Cancel is solid enough. No need to hate draft, you'd rather send the signal along. Still open to being Rakdos, but Izzet is looking more likely.

P1P8: 8th pick Bloodfray giant? Holy **** are you ever in the right color.

P1P9: I have no idea why you took this over the (bad) flier or Dispel. Dispel is main deckable.

P2P1: Rig is reasonable, I'd still rather take the Stab Wound though.

P2P3: Guildmage is the nuts and slightly better than the removal.

P3P2: you only have 1 gate so far right? I think I'd take the traitorous instinct, it's surprisingly good.

P3P5: Holy ****. Yeah the chemister is awesome...but passing a giant makes me sad. Hard to lose if the chemister survives though.

End result should be pretty awesome? Hard to tell without seeing all the picks, you're prob a bit light on creatures I'd guess. I think you did pretty well, no really bad mistakes.

P1P1: Giant is sweet, but I'd still take the guildmage.

P1P2: Awful pack. Literally nothing in W/x, so I'd take the pursuit of flight.

P1P3: Close, I love thoughtflare...but cutting off white is solid here with the griffin.

P1P7: fairly close between the wall and the judgement. It's fine.

P1P9: first clear mistake, dramatic rescue is awesome in azorius, while the arrester is very, very meh. 2/1s in general are the nut low in RTR.

P2P1: noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Trostani is sweet and all, but you saw _no_ green pack 1 and Skymark Roc is one of the top 3 uncommons in the set.

P2P6: pump spells aren't as important in populate GW, and knightly valor is prob superior either way.

P3P1: assume this is a rare draft, that's fine.

Pretty sweet draft all in all. I still think base UW would have been better, your deck would've been even sicker.

I played a lot of Modern planning on going to Toronto, but my plans fell through at the last second.

I couldn't find much that beat Jund convincingly. When Jund was an underdog, it wasn't by much. I guess that's why it's the format-defining deck.

Burn was good against Jund, but it's the easiest deck in the world to beat if someone wants to beat it (including Jund) but if people aren't prepared and you're good at sequencing, then that's what I would do.

But I'm biased. I love burning faces. A lot. See: my username.

EDIT: I see the tournament-winning Jund deck played Kitchen Finks. Ugh if Jund goes back to that. Also, UW is a nightmare. And combo is pretty bad. Maybe burning faces off isn't necessarily the best way to go. Can't they just reprint Sulfuric Vortex already?

EDIT2: Leyline of Sanctity showing up again. Screw that card. A lot. This is looking worse and worse. There was a window on MODO right before Toronto when that wasn't the case and I could freely set people on fire in the queues. I hate it when I can't realistically do that to win a tournament.
