Is there a viable tog deck?

No. Only format where that would be legal is legacy (and classic) and those formats are just too powerful for tog. Like sure, it will probably do quite well if you get Force of Wills etc. but there are probably other decks that will do the same thing better.

I miss old extended. I remember picking up hermit reanimator and t8'ing a ptq without running a practice game with it

I miss it too. Super Gro is my favorite deck of all time. Maybe they will unban Gush and I can try it out in legacy. Turboland is another favorite. You could get some legacy stuff and try tog, but legacy is heavily dominated by 1cc spells so resolving an Upheaval and then landing a tog is going to be really tough. The format is really fast with tons of very efficient counterspells and removal. Granted you will get stuff like Jace, the Mind Sculptor and Force of Will, but it probably won't be enough. If you want to play control in Legacy, you might try UW Stoneforge. It's a pretty solid deck. However, you'll have a lot of difficulty playing it online unless you know of a couple of people who play often. The events rarely fire.

I'm mostly just fumbling around, but can I get a comment on this standard budget deck?

Goblins
4 Goblin Arsonist
4 Spikeshot Elder
4 Goblin Wardriver
4 Goblin Chieftain
4 Adaptive Automaton

Spells
4 Shock
4 Goblin Grenade
4 Incinerate
4 Brimstone Volley
2 Runechanter's Pike

Lands
22 Mountain

Sideboard
3 Arc Trail
3 Slagstorm
3 Manic Vandal
3 Vulshok Refugee
3 Traitorous Blood

would I have any chance at all to be semi-competitive in 1on1 and maybe a random 8-man? What would you guys change? What am I really weak against?

Or am I just being dumb because I'm a noob?

I built mono red about a month ago and was doing really well in the 2-mans. I bought myself a set of Snapcasters and Seachrome Coasts and I think I'm going to play Delver now. I would gladly sell mono red to you to get myself some funds for the rest of my new deck.

I'll be honest with you though, I'm not sure it's going to be as strong as it was when I was crushing with it. There were a ton of Phantasmal Bears in the format so I was owning face with Geistflames and Arc Trails. I was actually choosing to draw first vs Delver decks because I could kill every creature they played while I waited for Shrine of Burning Rage to tick up. It's technically splashing black for Doom Blades on the sideboard because I'm terribly afraid of Tree of Redemption. I can't figure out a better answer and D Blade also helps vs Consecrated Sphinx and other random decks. Here's the full list.

4 Blackcleave Cliffs
4 Dragonskull Summit
1 Ghost Quarter
12 Mountain

4 Chandra's Phoenix
4 Goblin Fireslinger
3 Grim Lavamancer
1 Spikeshot Elder
4 Stormblood Berserker
4 Stromkirk Noble

3 Arc Trail
3 Brimstone Volley
3 Galvanic Blast
2 Geistflame
4 Shrine of Burning Rage
4 Volt Charge

SB:
3 Doom Blade
2 Hero of Oxid Ridge
2 Manabarbs
3 Traitorous Blood
1 Arc Trail
2 Geist Flame
1 Grim Lavamancer
1 Ghost Quarter

Geistflame is amazing in current standard btw. I wouldn't mind playing 4. It is so much better than galvanic blast atm.

New drafter here. I've been playing paper magic for a while, so at least I know some mechanics. Please give me some advice with drafts - I can't expect to have positive expectation but I'd like to maximize my return.

I forgot to turn on the draft recorder until pick 43, and I have no idea how to use raredraft.com - where do my draft records get saved, etc?

Thanks for the help!

Exactly what martenJ and bugstud said. I would be pretty happy with my deck if it turned out like that. No huge bombs, but lots of removal and efficient creatures.

At the raredraft site it tells you where the drafts are recorded so you can find them easily. Just go there, sign in (using google accounts or whatever), and click upload. It's really simple and they explain everything.

mtgotraders.com is a convenient place to buy whole decks. they take paypal. you make the order on the web site and they set up the delivery account to just have the specific cards you're buying available. so it's fast/easy.

Played a real life draft tonight and had a Geist of Saint Traft stolen. Maybe I should stick to online.

Won our little 32 player morning prerelease. Didn't pull anything but prize support was very top heavy so that was nice. I was also entered in the 3pm one, which started while we were in top 8, so I auto lost round one and got a bye round two. I get my packs two minutes before round 3 starts, crack them open and very quickly make an awful UG deck splashing black, dropping after I 0-2 the round, disappointed that I didn't have time to make a quality deck. I sit down and decide to see what I could have made had I the time to make a real deck and 15 minutes later felt much better about 0-2ing round three when I look at the finished product, which included an Urgent Exorcism, One-Eyed Scarecrow, and Cobbled Wings in the main as the best playable fillers. Just a horrible pool. I did pull a Lich though.

I went 4-2, won 6 packs. Played a pretty cool/fun UB zombie deck that had Dungeon Geists, Undead Alchemist, 2 Stitched Drakes, 2 Shreikgeists, Geralf's Mindcrusher, and Mikaeus the Unhallowed (and Cackling Counterpart).

Started out 1-2 too...1 game I lost just to a better deck, other match I lost game 3 to pure mana flood. I had board control for the most part, but I drew 6 straight lands starting on turn 4 and eventually opponent drew enough removal to swing in.

I think you at least need the white leylines that give you hexproof on sb. Otherwise you can never win burn.
