Glad it crashed before entering the next one, but after I got my winnings.

Agree completely re: subbing out greenweaver - greenweaver was least useful card by far.

Nimbus wings did a pretty solid job - nimbus wings was really good vs the luminarch deck, and was a house on the boa, which became even more unkillable. IMO 2 allies isn't enough to run the cleric, but it's probably close.

How do you get started in the online version? Can you start with a free deck and try to work your way up (although probably not worth the effort), or do you need to buy some starter decks to even get started?

I think its fine, I don't have a problem with ondu, but when you only have 2survivalists as allies it loses a lot of its positives

the ox is ok, the greenweaver is better when you have more landfall, t4 woodcrasher is pretty nutty though not sure which i like more, I think i like the greenweaver

Was one turn away from being 3-0 in my Zend sealed and the server crashed. O well in another one now and I now have 4 mythic rares out of 12 packs.

Another novice question, but are you able to use a creature's ability when it isn't your turn..

ie. on my opponent's turn, he is attacking w/ a 3/3 creature. The only creature I have is a 2/2. However, he has an ability where he can get +1/+1 if I tap (let's say black) mana. Am I able to tap 1 swamp to make my blocking creature a 3/3?

and if I am, am I allowed to tap (let's say 6 swamps) to get my creature turn into an 8/8?

thanks in advance

Yes. Only "sorceries" and "planeswalker abilities" can not be played on your opponents turn, unless a card specifically says otherwise.

In your instance a card like Crypt Ripper can definitely use his ability to get +1/+1 during your opponent's turn. Since he doesn't need to tap to use his ability, he can use it immediately several times.

alright thanks. I'm going to assume that you're talking about things that are already on the battlefield. (creatures, enchantments, etc.)

Can't play anything that's in my hand during my opponent's turn, unless it is an instant.

The gap between what people think of Doctor Ox and how good he actually is sparked my comment. Most everyone thinks he is dog****. He is not as good as the 0/4 kraken in U/W, but he's pretty solid.

lol @ PT: Austin. Everyone knows that Yuuya Watanabe is a cheater, right?

Was red my best 2nd color choice here? Obv black is the best and I think the creatures/removal/teetering peeks make red the second best, though green and possibly blue had decent cards since I was only taking 7-8 of either color. I'm pretty sure the black/red combo works the best together though.

Well I just got it, have not played magic in 5+ years. All i have is the starter pack but am having fun so far, and even managed to win a couple games.

Are most of you playing plan Planeswalker or original? I really don't like that you have to be restricted to one or the other. I want to buy some more cards but probably won't until I figure out which way I want to go.

A lot. Not referring to anything at PT: Austin, but I have seen and heard some nonsense.

One example for everyone's enjoyment: Yuuya is playing Swans Combo at GP: Seattle and is in game three vs. some random American guy. He sides in the Countryside Crusher package and has one on the table. (Opponent is playing 5cc but it's not relevant at the moment.) Yuuya quickly reveals X lands from his library, then hits a spell, then shuffles the cards and puts them on the bottom of his library. Opponent yells "JUDGE!" for obvious reasons, Yuuya claims that X = 7, a number that kills his opponent for exactsies, and the opponent claims that he has no idea how many lands it is and there's no way to tell since Yuuya earlier cascaded and the bottom of his deck is going to be random (obviously).

The head judge (French) rules in favor of Yuuya (lololol).

Nice play, brahskie.

crusher puts the land in the graveyard, so I'm confused as to why the cards are going to the bottom of the library

that and doesn't it stop between each activation? or is it like cascade and just goes until it hits a non-land

Come on, man. Of course they go to the graveyard and of course there is a stop. Do you think Yuuya is just an idiot and forgot these facts?

but that isn't a game loss level violation(on just a barrage of gameplay errors)?

I guess it seems so nuts that he could get away with it, and not pick up a GL, he really managed to only get a warning(or lol less) on something that blatant

I guess its so insane I can't comprehend how he got away with it

Haven't heard about this and can't really find anything online- you know of anywhere anybody's written stuff about it? I'd be interested in reading.

The Japanese guys were annoying as hell because of this. They would always call a Japanese judge who was biased as can be, who would then explain that they had misunderstood the most basic of concepts.

"When you said 'Attack', and he said 'OK', he didn't really mean 'Ok you can attack', he meant 'OK I am going to use my tap effect that I totally forgot about and then claim I didn't understand what 'attack' meant" - crap like that.
