Thanks for the heads up - bought the Deep Space pack.

I got the first one on ps3 when it first came out but never played it much. I didn't much like the controls and I generally don't like games where the perspective has you looking at your own back over much of the screen.

At that price I can give it another shot and hope the pc-controls work better for me.

I had the same issue with the third person view as you MinusEV but I decided to give it another shot a few months ago and it wasn't so bad actually.

I'm still struggling

Took forever to get it working also as there was a lot of stuff wrong and had to do some googling to figure out how to fix the jerky mouse, the constant spinning and how to set up the controls as the bottom half of the screen didn't even show.

It's somewhat better though, but I still don't like the controls and the viewpoint is still pretty terrible imo.

I still think it's good though so I will continue through and hope I grow used to it eventually - just can't stop being annoyed at how much better it could be if it could be played through first person with better controls.

Yes, and I hated those too.

If all you think about when playing a survival horror is, "why isn't this in first person?" then it's not really your genre.

RE4 & Dead Space controls amazingly compared to the older RE games too.

It has nothing to do with first person or not - I do fine with stuff like the batman (arkham) games (though it took a little while for those), Uncharted and GTA-series.

RE and Dead Space just have a really clunky, slow and counter intuitive control method. I would think RE4 was about as good as it can get using that sort of control and it still was pretty unplayable for me.

For those who've grown up with the original REs (which had an excuse both given their age and their development for consoles back then), it may not be as noticable, but it really is a terrible control scheme. And why on earth does your own backside have to take up a quarter of the screen?

And I don't see why 'survival horror' shouldn't be for me if I don't like the controls of the game. I love the games - I just can't play them.

imo the control schemes for those games are little clunky on purpose, I think it's supposed to make you feel a little awkward and like you arent in total control to do whatever you want instantly to add to the fear/sense of urgency factor. Another view is that I very well could be talking out of my ass.

I tried playing Dead Space on my computer a while ago and I also quit because of the horrible controls.

Speaking of Dead Space, I'm download the 2nd one from Amazon (free $5 credit ftw) right now. Should I wait and play the original first, or just jump into the 2nd one? I'm in no hurry to play any of them, I have enough games to last me for a few months.

Do you guys use gamepads? Some games are just meant to be played w/ them. I played Dead Space on Xbox and loved it.

syncmaster, I'd play the 1st one, it's very good. I haven't played the 2nd yet but generally there's no reason to skip a game in a series unless it blows like the first Assassin's Creed.

played dead space on PC and dead space 2 on my PS3, didn't mind the controls in either game...there are some games i'll play with a gamepad on my PC though, usually the sandbox games feel much better with a controller

I only played dead space 2, didn't really mind it that much, if i can recall correct you start with a 5 minute cinematic recap of the first game and you're pretty much good to go

Obviously if you have the time go for it, i've heard it's a good game

I played on PC and 360 and definitely preferred the controller with the 360. I was surprised by this since I grew up always loving keyboard and mouse.

I really liked both games. The first was better for me simply because I played it first. What a great experience.

Just bought/have been playing Dustforce.

It's insanely addictive. Has a little bit of Super Meat Boy to it. Be warned though, later levels get pretty hard and it's easy to get frustrated. Worth checking out if you like platformers.

I bought Dustforce today. I thought I was pretty decent at video games before today. Unless if I am missing something here, the game is way too hard.

It's not easy but it's no where near as hard as Meat Boy's dark world levels. Play it with a controller and it's much easier imo. Loving it so far.

I mean the levels after the first. Having to get a perfect score to open up other levels seems ridiculous. I wish I had a controller for my computer, because the controls really don't work well on a keyboard imo.

Super meatboy got so much easier once I figured out how to hook up my ps3-controller to my pc - should've done that a long time ago.
