Sure it can be tough to see all the consequences, but that's the point of the game and not down to the art style.

Only played it for about an hour so far though, so there may be scenarios where it gets more difficult to keep track that I just haven't seen yet.

Looks like this'll be another classic so far though - every move is like a new puzzle game.

After slay the spire where the interface was super clean and it was always obvious what was going on and what was about to happen the above is just a bit of a mess to me.

Into the Breach didn't grab me right away like FTL. FTL had a lot of complicated mechanical systems that you had to manage and work in to an overall strategy. This game is much more tactical with very limited mechanical options but more strategic depths, plays a lot like chess. I couldn't get in to Banner Saga which seems like a pretty similar game. But FTL is so amazing I'll probably give it another chance. Anyone with some serious hours in the game yet that can comment?

Last I checked, Stream only lists an Advanced Wars port.

Anssi: I think I played that on console and didn't like it very much, might give it another shot though.

I've been playing it nonstop for the last couple of days and loving it. Although now that I've beaten it on easy and normal, I'm not sure how much I'll be returning to it.

Each battle is a like an interesting logic puzzle, but with life-and-death consequences to keep things interesting. The pace is pretty brisk (battles take place over only five or six turns) so you get frequent jolts of satisfaction or dismay. The reduced element of luck makes your decisions feel more consequential. They manage to keep the basic formula pretty fresh by introducing lots of variations into the environment, the enemies, the weapons, etc. And, of course, it's a rogue-like so each level is procedurally generated and never the same as the last time. I'm pretty impressed by how much variety there is in the game.

I definitely thought it looked like Advanced Wars when I watched the trailer lol.

And the Chrono Trigger port, why would you buy that?... That sounds terrible. I'm not advocating breaking the law, but you could just play it on an emulator for at least the past 20 years

I agree you can't instantly tell what's going to happen everywhere in ITB and it's not an interface that would work for a real-time combat game.

But I don't see how they could accomplish showing everything that'll happen at once. It's game of complete information and showing everything that's going to happen at once would make it a lot messier and more confusing.

You get all the information you need by hovering over the various units and are even told the (immediate) consequences of your actions before performing them. I find it clean and informative and very well suited to the game.

The actual graphic style is a different matter and I'm neither here nor there on it - I don't think it looks awesome, but I don't dislike it either. I don't think it impacts the playing of the game though.

I was just poking around the AW wiki... I never knew they made 4 (!!!) Advance(d) Wars games.

I remember playing the first two. I finished the original and gave up halfway through the 2nd.

If you want to be a nit about it there's 12 games in the Wars series. Advance Wars series is still the best though, loved playing it on the Game Boy Advanced.

The march bundle wasn't all that great, but it was worth it for DS3 alone. Happily will check out Lost Castle and Splasher.

I'm curious what you would change. The screenshot shows the enemy attacks which is the most important information. If you mouse over a unit, it will show their HP and highlight their attack and show the amount of damage. You can hold ALT or mouse over the attack order icon to see turn order and HP for all units. You can click on a unit and mouse over its portrait or hold CTRL and mouse over any unit to get a window that shows unit traits and a demonstration of their attack if it isn't clear on the main game board.

I think if more of the information was displayed all the time, the screen would be too cluttered as opposed to Slay the Spire where there is plenty of screen real estate for all the information. Still, it is very simple to get all the information you need.

Any good game recommendations for a 15 year old girl?

Games she likes:
Minecraft (loves)
Stardew Valley (loves)
Infinifactory
The Witness
Everquest 2 (it's been awhile)

I bought her Skyrim but hasn't played it (which I still think she'll like)

I was thinking maybe one of Elite Dangerous, Slime Rancher, Astroneer, Oxygen Not Included
