Almost as legitimate a CON: as saying you can download cheats for a game. From what I've read, the game doesnt require you to buy packs, you just get cash/items easier. It's a cash grab, sure, but not buying them doesn't affect your progression in the game.

Since it's Internet + Video Games however, prepare for death threats and reddit diatribes...

And probably pay to get money, pay to get a better gun/armor and pay to pick a snazzy skin for your character.

From what I've read it's pretty much 'you can pay if you don't want to play parts of the game you've paid to play'. You're just taking shortcuts and cutting down on your value-for-money.

I think the review-copies were shipped without the microtransactions (according to RPS) and no reviewer complained about the balance so it seems very ignorable.

Adding it at all sucks though - pre-ordering and microtransactions are two things we really should get rid of, but thanks to idiots who insist on throwing money away pointlessly, we won't.

I hate pre orders. Micro transactions in non competitive games that aren't pay for content and not obnoxiously done (e.g. Replace 5 hours of boring grinding that is utterly pointless for $5) I'm not so concerned with. If people want to pay for shortcutting content I'm ok with them subsidizing my game purchases.

Okay, time for something a bit more productive.

So, back in the day, there was this huge flash game which I absolutely loved and it was helluva difficult, too. It was called N. It's a simple idea with a platformer and each level consist of one screen. The controls were great in this one and it was loads of fun.

3 days ago N++ has been released (so a sequel to N+ which I haven't played, seems like XBLA exclusive) and it's getting already amazing reviews. The sheer number of levels and their variety is outstanding and I'd probably highly recommend it, without playing it. Sounds fishy, but I'm just telling you this because you can try N for free on their site: http://www.thewayoftheninja.org/ The free version consists of 100 levels and should give you a taste of what N++ could be.

Sony's former Strategic Content Director, Shahid Kamal Ahmad, wrote on Twitter, "If you're getting a refund after playing a game for 50 hours you're a thief."

He later added "Here's the good news: Most players are not thieves."

For a game like, I dunno, max Payne or portal, I'd agree. But for a game like NMS, you can easily hit that in 5 days.

Given that it's supposed to essentially be an endless game, I think that takes some of the force out of his argument.

I have a hard time feeling sympathy for someone who can sit through 50 hours of something they aren't enjoying only to decide they now want to stop and get a refund. Honestly surprised Sony is giving out blanket refunds, but if they are then his comment was also pretty douchey even if he doesn't represent Sony anymore.

Taking advantage of a fully legal offer/opportunity does not make someone a thief.

It can be argued it's un-ethical or immoral, but 'thief' is clearly inaccurate.

But yea - if you enjoy the game enough to play it for 50 hours you obv shouldn't ask for money back. And if you're dumb enough to spend 50 hours on a game you don't enjoy then you have bigger issues that a refund isn't going to help.

I think the refund period should be tied to price. More expensive titles should have bit longer refund period (like 4 hours), while cheapest games should have just 1 hour. No exceptions.

Real blame lies on the platforms that allow players to refund game after such a long game time.

It should be noted that for PSN in the USA at least, these are "one time goodwill gestures" rather than blanket refunds. You aren't getting one if you've refunded things in the past, and you won't be getting refunds in the future if you refund NMS. Other countries may have more consumer friendly laws / terms.

Slightly tempted myself with all the talk of it being easy, but I've played easily enough to feel I got decent value compared to many other games.

Again, 50 hours sounds like a lot, but what if the refund window was 5 days with the game or less. Because that very well could be the situation some people are in.

If they're the obsessive type who will religiously play 10 hours a day, every day for a year, that means they've only got 1.4% use out of that product so far this year, after 50 hours.

In that time, it's likely they haven't even finished the game, right?

I meant Noodles idiotic argument that 50 hours is ok for refunds for certain types of games.

And the time limits on refunds hasn't been lifted. You still get auto-denied with the 2 weeks/2 hours thing. You could always open a support ticket and try to get refunds with higher play times. If you do you will generally get this response:

Quote:
As a one-time customer service gesture, the purchase has been removed from the account and a credit has been applied to your Steam Wallet. The credit can be used for future Steam purchases.
Since people believe everything they see on reddit Valve had to put this on the No Man's Sky Steam page:
