Enough said.
How are these unprovoked attack posts furthering discussion? Its a shame we cant create energy from hypocrisy on the internet. Dont like my posts, put me on ignore, dont stink it up for everyone else with your "he's a troll" finger pointing.

Oh noes someone was slightly condescending on the interwebs....wat?

WTF!

COH is not complicated.
lol wut

Tell you what... let's go ahead and list maybe 10-15 or so of the most popular RTS games, look at the game mechanics, and decide if CoH is more or less complicated than average.

I can't believe you'd seriously argue that it isn't.

Also, no one said "counter intuitive" as far as I can tell. Complicated and counter intuitive aren't synonyms. Monopoly isn't counter intuitive, but it's certainly more complicated than Candy Land.

Are we done tarding up an otherwise lighthearted thread with *******ry now?

any stand out winners to look at first that don't require me to log a ton of time to get through or to fully experience?

I really enjoyed bit.trip.runner, played it a ton on Wii.

I haven't played any of the others, but from what I have read, I would say the must plays on that list are:
binding of isaac
cave story+
psychonauts
super meat boy

It might be more "complicated" than other RTS but still is a gazillion miles away from being complicated enough to be hard to learn, given all the "complication" is based on completely intuitive mechanics. Its a main stream RTS, not HOI or Combat Mission/Close Combat. The sum total of "complication" is still very very simple. Being more complicated than average is still miles away from being too complicated.

Look it just boggles me that someone would describe this game as too complicated and then use a fence providing more cover than a wall as an example of that excessive complication. Its a relevant discussion about the games mechanics. Sorry if you are to thin skinned to stand next to your absurd statements.

Life tip: Calling someone "thin skinned" isn't carte blanche to be an ass.

I stand by my original statement: The game has three different resources, squads with unique upgrades, captain units, different cover rules for various terrain that completely make the difference between easy victory and getting slaughtered, plus individual weak spots for tanks, multi-step and varying conditions for victory from the first mission of the game, etc.

It makes the game significantly more complicated than most. Case in point, the tutorial is over an hour long. Sorry, not everyone has eight hours a day to devote to gaming, and if it takes over an hour just to explain how your game works, that's a pretty significant barrier to entry.

It's fine once you've gone through the tutorial and have played a few missions, but for new players it's a really inelegant design.

This whole conversation boggles my mind. It's like you're looking at a game of checkers, then looking at a game of chess, then insisting they're pretty much the same.

The others people mentioned are good, as well as Dungeons of Dredmor, which is a quality roguelike with a strong emphasis on humor. Tough to finish, but really easy to pick up and play and fun right from the beginning if rougelikes are your thing.

No you are looking at a game of snakes and ladders and then a game of checkers and then calling checkers complicated.

The game is just not that complicated.

The tutorial might be an hour long, but its mostly spoon feeding. Also even against its peers its not that complicated. There have been several commercial RTS that have been much more complicated. Age of Empires/Rise of Nations for example. Many games have 3 recources, hero units etc and again lol at mentioning cover and weak spots on tanks.

If you find that this game requires significant time investment to be able to play I just dont know what to say.

I'm deleting most that I haven't played and commenting on what the remaining ones are and how I liked them.

bit.trip runner fun rhythm game, if it's not your thing after 15 or so minutes, move on
blocks that matter quite nice puzzler, I liked this one a lot
cave story+ good if you like Metroidvanias
dungeons of dredmor roguelike, I got a very big kick out of it but I was already a roguelike fan
gemini rue haven't played this, but point and click adventure. Resonance, another by the same company, was decent but not amazing
gratuitous space battles meh
jamestown enjoyable bullet hell style shoot em up, worth a couple hours
psychonauts very fun and distinctive, a lot like Super Mario 64
super meat boy really hard platformer
trine 1/2 only played 1, interesting premise, got old pretty fast
For my personal taste, Psychonauts, Dredmor and Blocks that Matter are the ones I'd look at first. Super Meat Boy and Isaac are internet faves in general.

EDIT: I see others are recommending Cave Story+, and that was definitely pretty fun. It felt somewhat brief, but then I didn't go back and try to max everything out either. If you like that genre of game, you might check out La Mulana, which is huge and satisfyingly hard. (I've yet to finish it, since other stuff came up, but probably logged 15-20 hours on it and am stuck pretty well in the middle.)

Thanks for replies. Will probably do Trine 1 as I hear its not too long, probably Cave Story+ and then try the roguelike ones. Obv those sink more time. Although tbh in indie games I never look for ones that require a ton of time. Limbo is a good example, play it once through, see pretty much all you can see in that play through, and then minimal achievements. Wam bam thank you maam.

Binding of Isaac is awesomesauce but will require a heavy time investment. I suck at twin stick shooters, so I'm 40 hours in and haven't accomplished much, but lots of people have played 100 hours +++.

I'm not looking forward to it because now that I got the THQ bundle for cheap, my brain is telling me that buying good games for cheap is really addicting and hard to pass up.

Stupid question:

I want to uninstall a game I bought and just finished.

What happens to the game then? Does it delete (disappear) from my games list so it's as if I don't even own it anymore? Or does it just show as uninstalled?

I also uninstalled Planetside 2 and that went away so I don't see it anymore so I want to make sure before I uninstall the game and pretty much give up ever knowing that I have it available to me.

It doesn't disappear, the option to play will turn back into install in the library, that's all. Deleting it from library not sure if it's even possible. Uninstall via 'delete local files' or whatever it's called for this game (right click on title in the library)
