Was thinking about trying this game out. Just wanted to hear some feedback on it. Screenshots look amazing and the music speaks for itself. I guess I'll have to get over the relatively kiddy graphics and give this game a go. It's been a while since I played a JRPG, I think the last one was Persona 3 . BTW, I heard that they may be releasing Ni No Kuni 2 based on how successful the game is in North America.

I'm like 20 hours in right now and it's a true JRPG through and through. Consistently fun, pretty well paced and the graphics are part of what makes it so cool, it's a really unique aesthetic that's pretty nice to look at (and the music is awesome to listen to). It may seem to be a kiddy game on the surface due to the art/characters but it's definitely a story with universal appeal - kind of like how Studio Ghibli movies often feature kid protagonists but people of all ages enjoy them.

Would have beaten it by now but Fire Emblem: Awakening came out...

I would only recommend Chrono Trigger. Old FFs really aren't very good. Chrono Trigger's controls are bad, but the game is good enough get it nonetheless.

If you have an ipad you definately want to get The World Ends With You.

ni no kuni is f amazing. big emotions. maybe a bit biased since i'm a huge studio ghibli fan.
played ~50hrs so far.
grind on my mind. doing all the sidequests.
abusing the platoon card game AI is fun, made several M in casino chips.
i also enjoy giving silly names to my familiars.

ni no kuni is an awesome game that i'm actually getting sick of lol. the world/characters are absolutely awesome and the story and gameplay are solid as well, but i don't really feel the need to finish it right now.

i really enjoyed the errands for the most part but they ended up getting so repetitive. take heart-give heart... take heart-give heart... beat another punching bag in old smokey, fetch the diary, etc. i did enjoy most of the bounty hunts though because of the occasional interesting/challenging battle and better rewards.

Spoiler:
i just finished beating shadar and the cat after he got possessed. the boss battles have gotten really boring. they involve me running around casting the mornstar spell while my party acts as fodder. boss battle have been fun overall though, so this doesn't bother me much.

my main issue though is that i know i'm almost done with the game (main story) and i feel like my party is only now starting to get badass. i spent all this time leveling up familiars and getting upgrades and only now are they starting to feel powerful. none of them have had all their abilities unlocked. most are in their final form in the mid 30s to 40s. i've had 2-3 of them that i haven't used at all because i needed to get them leveled and be strong enough. now that i can finally use them i'm almost done with the game. i just feel like the payoff isn't there. it'd be awesome if there was like 15-20 more hours of content for me to beastmode my way through with this party (new areas/towns/dungeons and not just boss fights).

i really enjoyed the game for the most part. it's very good imo, but i just have no desire to finish it right now.

I love JRPGs, but I remember thinking FF10 was a little teen boppy (the only FF game I didn't finish). Does this mean I'm going to think Ni No Kuni is super kiddy?

i hate those stupid anime movies. is ni no kuni worth it just for the gameplay? or are there so many cutesy cartoon cutscenes that i will get annoyed at it?

lol, I basically feel the same way. I can do a game like Kingdom Hearts, even today, but this game looks like it's made for 3 year olds.

I've been playing The Last Remnant. It's a pretty good choice for people who want to play modern JRPGs but don't have a console.

thought about trying last remnant out 2 summers ago., but the gameplay kinda threw me off.

plus I heard the sotry is weak and after the 1/2 point it takes the story and puts it int he trunk.

I need to try ni no kuni this summer. heard it has tons of story and its a traditional jrpg. gameplay seems like tons of micromanaging tho : /

Any mentions for FFT in this thread? This game was a curveball (in a good way) after playing VII.

I bought XIII and XIII-2 6 months ago and haven't touched them..... New games don't seem to have that magic.

XIII was good, XIII-2 was EXCELLENT. Toriyama really 'redeemed" himself in 13-2. I honestly loved XIII-2 and thought it was brilliant, it was simply a better game and better told than XIII with a better story. XIII was good, but think the dialogue and story got clouded up a bit. I love the pacing of those two games.

also want to note that Tales of Xillia came out this week, I ll play it once i get some good time inthe upcoming months

I don't frequent this thread as I don't really play a ton of JRPGs anymore, but if you're a JRPG fan Persona 4 is probably a must play imo. Really, really well done JRPG.

Persona 4: Golden is worth making the time for imo. I normally spend an hour or less a day playing video games so it took me a long time to finish, but it was good times. I'm not really qualified to give a "best ever" sort of rating for any JRPG but I can definitely see why this game gets mentioned when such discussions come up.

heh, I have a hard time pulling myself away from games once I start so I try to avoid the temptation, I plan to get to it though... I was so addicted to Persona 4 Arena, one of my favorite games in past few years. Have read tons about P4: Golden and it sounds great
