Background: I have a fairly fast computer. I can run any game with max resolution. It is a gaming computer that is less than 2 years old, with all the drivers updated. I live in Chicago.

Issue: I have no choice when it comes to my ISP. I have used Comcast for the past few years, but when I recently moved, I had to use RCN for my internet and cable. The HD channels for the TV kinda suck, because they cut out from time to time, but whatever.

The problem is, with the newer games, specifically TF2 and CoD4, I cant get them to play on-line. CoD2 runs no problem, as does BF2142. But TF2 and CoD4 both time out before I can load into any game. I have played TF2 3 times since the day it came out, only because it will not load up. I have only got into one CoD4 match, but it said I had a problem with my connection, and then timed out.

What can I do to increase the speed of my connection to my computer?

Oh I just wanted to add. I have the 360 and live works perfectly fine. But I hate playing shooters on consoles, and wanted to run this from my computer.

Make sure you have the most up to date firmware on your router? What speed is your computer's Internet connection right now - try downloading something from Microsoft to give you an idea of the Kb/s.

Maybe try putting your computer in your router's DMZ and see if that makes a difference?

Use this to test the speed of your connection instead of downloading from Microsoft...
