I first beat Raining Blood on Hard about 6 months ago. Still haven't beat the devil. (Not that I've tried lately, but I've never even been close.)

Yesterday I ordered my niece a scorehero t-shirt. I'd put my scores in if they were any good, but I'd be about 3500th place for career score and whatever 35xxxx gets me on TTFAF. Maybe my niece will make an account there and try to be the best 9 year old girl.
I doubt you'd be that low if you've beaten TTFAF. I'm like 1925th and haven't beaten TTFAF yet.

Oh, I have some terrible scores on other songs. 3s and 7s is like a 2.9x (barely 5*) and TTL and TWIE are only 4*. RB is only 167k. One is only 425k. NFMH is 3* 108k.

I have a buddy who has also not passed TTFAF and he's got about 400k more than me total (Sooga on here).

hmm I dunno. I don't consider myself to be particularly good at eye/hand, an ancient 33, and have small girly hands but still managed to pass everything on expert, 10 mil career, most songs 5* etc. Anyone 10 years younger than me with some time on their hands could crush me I'm sure.

I am at 6763 overall on Expert at Scorehero with 14,828,752 as my score. There should be room for improvement since Undeadfil13QC is at 24.8 million at nr. 1

I'm soon to be 31 and I wonder were I would place in the age bracket 30+? I consider myself pretty decent at hand/eye co-ordination and that I've especially been helped in my GH3 quest by the fact that I have played the guitar since I was 15.

Adapted from the real guitar: The ability to alt-strum, the use of the pinky , tapping, switching left hand position around, forming "powerchords" GY,RB,YO with index and ring finger (very common fingering ), forming other two and three finger chords (Minus Celsius is still a bitch though), a feel for the general rhytm of guitar patterns in a song, general rhytm feel etc. etc.

Anyone else play the guitar along GH? And if so would you say it helps? Hinders? How?

Yeah I never put the scores in there, but I do have a spreadsheet with my scores in it. 18,438,261. I have some stupidly low scores on things like Barracuda, and have a bunch of random 10-20ks to pick up (JONAS WTF?). The scores are split between the Wii and the PS2. I think there's a pretty decent wall around 20MM for lowly players like we are, since you basically need to start getting -2s on everything. For now I have a wall right where I am, though when I die at Twin Solo these days I already have over 400k (score is 358k on that one), so another pass of TTFAF and a handful of those pickups will get me over 19 handily. If I could somehow manage the whole solo section without SP I should be able to have 450k by that point. I only have 14 FCs, but they're obviously the easiest songs.

I'm 31 as of last July, so I'm in that old man age group as well. Fingers don't move like they used to, but the muscle memory is still there if I take the time to train them. No excuses, though.

As for the real guitar helping, my girlfriend was naturally better at the game from the start, but I actually attribute that more to her piano playing than guitar. She basically stopped at some point, so I have no idea how good she would have gotten (she tends to quit games the second I start beating her at them, since she says that I ruin them. Tetris attack was one that we haven't played since I could score 20-30k semi-consistently in a 2 minute time trial).

OK that's enough for this morning. Time to go get on an airplane to the OC.

i'm back at gh3 for the first time in several months, trying to upgrade the last handful of songs from 4* to 5*. played them all a little, got new highs on each

ttfaf - 516k of 566k. probably get this in the next week with practice and enough strum luck in one run

take this life - 311k of 339k. this will be no problem, even new high score was a crappy run, only played once

the way it ends - 336k of 361k. i'm real inconsistent at the strumming, but i can get it before too long

heroes of our time - 441k of 442k. i missed the cutoff by 400 ****ing points.

revolution deathsquad - 487k of 549k. this song beats my ass, it's a compilation of everything i've never been able to keep a combo through, plus a lot of the sp phrases are intentionally in the ridiculous parts. this will take a while.

once i get these i will have 5* on all songs from all 6 gh games (1,2,3,80s,aerosmith,world tour - minus the bonus songs from gh1 and gh2 that i have no interest in playing - i did get jordan though, but not six because i really hate playing it), rock band 1 and 2, and the difficult gh3 dlc (the 3 guitar battles, virtuoso pack, dragonforce pack, death magnetic album). quite a life.

I'm decent with actual guitars but I think my DDR experience might have been more helpful than that.

Anyone completed the "Buy a Guitar Already" (Play through a career on the Hard or Expert difficulty using a standard controller) achievement on X360?
4 songs to go here, can't really understand how is possible to pass the end of One with standard controller...

Random thought:

Is the line "so far away" in every Dragonforce song (multiple times in some cases) in the games an homage to Dire Straits (or Mark Knopfler specifically)?

OK finally migrated my spreadsheet to scorehero. Let them manage my scores. I'm krizazy there. 4108th overall, spread between wii and ps2. Need to re-fc a bunch with paths since it's gay to have a 1000th+ranking on FCs. Will probably wait until I get the PS3 guitar to dig into these again (got that so I can do the DLC that I didn't pass yet and can't get on Wii or ps2).

EDIT: the current 4107th player is named kuh-ray-zee. LOLcoincidences.

ATM I beat you at RaBl, TTL, One and F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X (of all songs, hate this one) .

Any tips on how to master Mauvais Garcon? I think I have a case of OCD when it comes to 5-starring all songs on the main setlist and all bonus songs (except TTFAF.) I have Mauvais, NFMH, TWIE, MinCel and TTFAF left.

I was confused until I realized that ranking was for all systems lol. I'm 3508 across all systems but ~1800th on 360 (I have the same s/n on scorehero).

Well I came far from mastering that one myself, but I -do- downstrum the entire song. It's really rough on my arm. The pattern just repeats and I just try to stay in time with it. I always break combo a few times during transitions into and out of the main line (daa dada daa dada daa dadadadada) and I also screw up in the part at the end where it goes back and forth between Y and YO "randomly." Just go to practice mode and maybe try downstrumming. Should be good for a bunch of points. That song should be FCable since there's nothing really tough in it (not super fast changes, just weird ones with a beat that I never seem to follow).

That's one of my least favorite songs.

FCPREMIX wouldn't be that rough if it weren't for those two damn hammers in the middle of that song's "main line." I break combo there a ton. I've tried doing the actual hammers and also just trying to strum everything and I can't get it.

I have my work cut out for me on RB. I can get through mosh 1 without SP so there is no reason that I shouldn't be 5 starring it, but I guess I just need to put together a perfect run where I do that, and hit all the SPs before and after mosh 1, and not miss randomly in the strum scale things before the GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG leading into flood.

I'm shocked that 3s and 7s isn't one of the ones you got me on (maybe it is). I -always- miss the RBO chord in the main line (the note right before it repeats).

Sorry I don't have a lot of advice. Downstrumming isn't usually the answer (except for the final few notes of KoC), and I can't imagine that it's the best way to do MG.

It seems I have a really hard time with songs that have awkward three-chord switches involved. Minus Celsius, 3s and 7s (same problem as you) and Mauvais in particular. It doesn't help that I really don't like those songs much. Take this life, Knights of Cydonia, Raining Blood and One are more my thing.

First time I played Mauvais on expert it was insta-fail. The rhythm is so odd and the chords so awkwardly mixed that my brain shut down completely. Still after a lot of practice I often lose track of the pattern and the movements. So weird. I will try downstrumming and see what happens.

FCP and Mauvais are my two least favourite songs to listen to and to play. Is there a Meshuggah DLC package out there? Because if you want strange timing patterns and ugly sounding crap why not go full blast?

Or maybe these guys could get a bonus song in "Guitar Hero V - It's not quite music":

Behold the Arctopus

I actually tried specifically to listen past 3 minutes, and at 2:30 or so I forgot about it and clicked on a link to another of their songs (you are number 6) because I thought that it might be a take on the Prisoner theme (late 60s TV series lasted exactly one season).

KoC would be fine if I could strum. I have FCed the non-strum parts several times, but lose way over 100k in the strumming. For One I just suck at everything past FSA, though I also typically screw up big in the darkness riff.

It helps my to watch youtube runs of the songs so I can hear the strum patterns. Can't just go to PriestMLH's channel anymore for this since he took them all down (copyright nazis taking down everyone), but they're out there.

NO, microsoft hates us

I have this same issue with some games as well.

Hell, I even had a profile (grouchie) and then signed up for XBL with the same exact name, and it created a 2nd profile for me with the exact same name but this one had the XBL attachment on it.
And it still won't let me move save files or anything from one to the other because you can't use a save file on a different account.
WTF was microsoft thinking with this one? Not being able to use other peoples saves is ****ing ******ed.

I think I'll get a Cities on Flame FC to pass you. I should of gotten that FC multiple times. Seems like a fitting way to retire from that game. I won't try to catch you if you beat TTFAF, too much Rock Band 2 to play.
