Played IV and EfLC recently on my brothers xbox and definitely prefer the car controls of those compared to the SA and earlier releases. I like that you actually had to control the car with skill. It was a pain to get used to since I only played those two games on a PC, but once I did, I dug it a lot. I'd actually like to play with a controller for driving and a mouse/keyboard for everything else, but that would be kinda weird.

I have a friend that uses a logitech steering wheel for driving and m/kb for everything else. Apparently controller for driving, m/kb for on foot is a popular choice on PC.

Lol, logitech steering wheel is a bit far imo but to each their own I suppose.

I don't even like to play games like GT with a steering wheel - can't imagine playing any GTA-games with it.

If cars were invented today, they'd use game-controllers imo.

I don't think so tbh. A controller will never have the fine control of a real racing wheel.

That said, using a wheele in GTA is pretty LOL

Kinda surprised people would prefer "realistic" (GTA4) driving to the Need for Speed engines of PS2 titles.

If I want realistic driving I'll go play GT or Forza. For now, I'm just trying to evade the cops with a dead hooker in my trunk, cut me some slack.

Haha yes, this. Driving in 4 practically replaced fast cars with matchsticks

the problem i had with the driving in 4 was that I really enjoyed driving with 4 or 5 cars and bikes but everything else just felt like a boat.

Yeah, same. Though I was under the impression that this was because a fair few of the cars were based on real life American cars?

You're not wrong. I rate myself as a very mediocre driver using the GTA4 engine.

That said, I really don't care. I didn't play GTA4 for realistic driving, I played it to do "GTA" stuff. I won't even pretend to argue The NFS engine was much easier to drive with or that GTA4 required more skill, I just don't care.

GTA4 driving sucked. GTA San Andreas/Vice City and earlier (including the original GTA) driving was fun!

They should have different driving modes but not sure how difficult that would be to implement?

They can really only have one driving engine (main driving mode), other than that it is just different view/angles based off the same engine.

no really, some cars have sport/racing modes, they could implement that.

the problem is it becomes so focused on driving when it's a GTA game and not a racing game.

i had to customize the driving to (gas) "x" and (reverse) "square" and (brake) "r1" like the old games, and then i enjoyed it again.

but i do agree that a lot of the cars were "clunky" feeling. the sentinel and all the racing cars you find throughout the game were the only ones i really liked driving.

and i wish theyd let us get that elite helicopter (in bogt) with the guns during the game, and not after you've completed every story mission. theres really no point in it then.

At the end of GTA 4, what happens if you

Spoiler:
....choose to deal with the guy you were intending to kill rather than go kill him on the boat??? I chose to kill him...

Just wondering whether to do it again with the different option..

Thanks

Spoiler:

You go do the mission for you, which involves you making a deal with some gang. The deal turns sour and he screws you over, leaves you to die while dealing with the gang, and then sends a hitman to your wedding. The hitman shoots and kills your cousin and you get revenge on him in exactly the same way as the other option-the only difference is he kills the mafia boss because he sees him as an unnecessary burden. Your nephew grows up a bastard.

Ahh ok thanks. So it's a lose-lose decision then.

I did really enjoy the game, my only problem is that I didn't get the feeling of progress like with VC. Was basically just some hired muscle to the very end.

In VC, having the mansion with the usable garage and helipad gave the impression of making it imo.

The 'Heat' bank job is still pretty epic though!

That's the weird thing with me, with VC I thought the story was too short and the extras too long, same with SA (here come the haters), but with GTA4 too much story, not enough extras. VCS had a good balance IMO.

And that bank job is amazing, best mission.

what do you mean by extras?

VC didn't have enough end game for me, SA had a good amount.

Empire building, gang missions, non-story missions (assassinations etc), emergency service missions, races. That sort of thing.
