Anyway, agree with you about the tagging, am surprised at how much of an (unrealistic) advantage it gives. I guess I could abstain if I wanted to be more realistic, but almost certainly won't.
Yeah, that's where I'm at with it. I like the concept too much to turn it off. I just wish I could turn off the ability to see their body outlines through walls.

**** a multiplayer. This game is awesome. Got about half of the map unlocked haven't checked where I am story wise.

Has anyone figured out how The Lost Letters work? I have seen an icon on my map for them twice but have not been able to actually find them.

Surprised there's not more posts in this thread - I'm having an absolute blast with this game.

Spoiler:
A lot of the relics and letters are underground in bunkers or caves

There would be if I can actually find time to play, just totally jammed this week. Glad to hear you and others like it though. Only had about a half an hour last night and one thing that's clear is that this isn't RDR with the auto-aim, I actually have to earn the kill. That right there just extended the campaign by several hours for me.

It has nothing to do with expecting cod or battlefield . Most single player story lines these days don't take more than a week or so to complete. Online simply extends the amount of time I am going to spend playing the game.

Sure I understand that but atm I can't think of one game that does the both well.

COD and BF single players suck.

Far cry, Just cause, Red Dead for example multiplayer sucks.

I'm sure there are games out there that do both well but I can't think of any right now?

Gears and to some extent Halo.

Halos for sure. Both modes are genius!

im not a gears guy, but I bought GOW3 and thought the campaign was surprisingly enjoyable (usually hate shooter campaigns). and horde and beast modes are pretty damn fun with friends. i didnt enjoy the online deathmatch etc though.

MP Versus has a decently high learning curve but once you get it down there's nothing else like it. By far my favorite game to play online right now. The movement, the graphics, the gore, tons of maps. Incredible depth to the gameplay. It's the one game I come back to over and over again since it came out last Fall.

Anyways, enjoying FC3 quite a bit. I'm disappointed in the enemy AI though. I can have a whole gang coming after me and lose them by ducking behind a shed that they most certainly saw me run to. The AI in FC2 wasn't amazing but it felt a lot more authentic than this. Playing on the hardest difficulty fwiw.

I get what you mean with the AI but i think i have become so accustomed to that stuff that i take it as standard that AI will be exploitable. I basically just try and play the game as realistically as i can trying not to exploit any game faults. Not perfect but meh.

Things i like are the game functions decently well(not amazing) if you approach it guns blazing or in a stealth manner. Far Cry 2 sometimes you could be miles away and snipe someone and suddenly everyone would know exactly where you are. Saying that though all my stealthy moves go to **** usually half way through taking out a camp and suddenly im shotgunning fools left right and centre. I dont mind that though.

Other random thoughts... The driving in first person actually feels really good along with the loose handling of the cars. If your being chased it makes it quite exciting bumping about everywhere. What came to mind in one of those moments was how cool it would be to make a Jurassic Park game basically with this game engine where the island is filled with dinosaurs. I can dream...

Say what you want about Far Cry 2, at least the African setting was fresh.

But yeah this game is fun.

The capacity for guerrilla tactics is amazing, since the AI no longer knows exactly where you are at all times after you fire your first shot. The see-through-walls tagging system is kind of overpowered in this regard though as others have alluded to, essentially reversing the traditional FPS AI-player relationship in your favor. And it's kind of dumb that the enemy won't sound their alarm unless they actually see you. A smorgasbord of arrow-riddled bodies could be piling up around the camp and they won't call for reinforcements without visual confirmation. It makes you feel like Predator. Until you have your ankles suddenly chewed off by a komodo dragon sneaking through the brush.

I don't know what they were thinking getting rid of that awesome in-game map they had in FC 2. Being able to drive while consulting it was very helpful and conducive to immersion. Having to cut out into an entirely separate screen that pauses the game is an annoying step backward.

Was reading a review about this game and this story about random encounters with wildlife was pretty damned funny:

Quote:
The wildlife alone is worth a pair of its own paragraphs.

Here they are: Wildlife is diverse. Too diverse, in actual fact, to pass for a real place on planet Earth, a fact made obvious by its list of place-specific animal species. Komodo dragons (from Komodo), Galapagos tortoises (from the Galapagos Islands), Sumatran tigers (yeah, you get it). Far Cry 3’s designers have picked animals that provide a challenge for both the player and for the enemy, are fun to hunt, and whose predator/prey relationships make a lot of unpredictable things happen, all without giving a second thought to any real-world ecosystem. And we’ll sum that up for you in a single anecdote.

We were looking for a Letter Of The Lost; one of the four discrete varieties of treasure available on the island. While looking at the ground, a pair of feet belonging to one of the local villagers came pelting it past us, closely followed by a Komodo dragon. Our breath wheezed out of us at the unexpected mirth of it all. You had to be there…

The chase veered off down a hill and we stayed at the top, watching the debacle zig-zag down it, Benny Hill-style. Too busy laughing to be necessarily vigilant, we were attacked by a Sumatran tiger. Tigers are tough, so we ran from it across a dirt road. It chased us and was hit by four guys in a jeep. The jeep stopped and the men got out, but the tiger wasn’t dead. It attacked them and they opened fire. When it was finally pushing up daisies, Komodo man came running along, now with two more of the enormous lizards in tow. Two of the guys at the jeep opened fire on the Komodos while the other one skinned the recently downed tiger. Yeah, it’s that kind of world.

Channeling tuq here. Have spent the past 30 minutes trying to get to the top of a radio tower on the second island. LOL me.

I am absolutely loving this game so far. Picked it up Tuesday but didn't have much time to play this week, put in about 8 hours last night and this morning and probably going to put in some more time later today.

Also tend to go into camps/missions in stealth mode and end up turning into Rambo half way through like someone mentioned earlier.

I"m pretty early in the game since I spent all my time hunting wildlife (only on main mission 8 or 9) and picked up a sniper rifle that I could attach a silencer on. Between that, my silenced pistol and the bow I have been pretty decent at taking out camps/outposts silently. Just got the bow so I haven't had much chance to use it but the silenced weapons make taking over camps/outposts much easier. Early on I just ramboed my way through them.

Got to the top of the radio tower. The story line in this game has actually been pretty compelling so far. I have zero big complaints. Absolutely love how it feels like you're doing everything for a reason rather than just running around randomly doing random **** for random people like a lot of sandbox games.

Why do game designers still insist on making escort missions? Everybody hates them. They just don't work. At all. How do they still not realize something that 100% of gamers have known for decades?

Why should I have to protect some suicidal idiot who insists on charging into enemy fire every chance he gets?

Love the game, even though my schedule has limited me to about an hour a night. So far spending most of my time killing and skinning animals in an attempt to beef up my carrying capacity in important areas. The island(s) is the MVP so far - really impressed with the attention to detail, variety, and elevation changes when I roll out to new areas. Goddamned dogs though, they are a PITA.
