So on the current multiplayer game earlier today I was trying to buy a province off goofy and when I did in singleplayer I got the 'Overextension' event as Portugal.

Is this simply because I have too many non core provinces in ratio to cores?
Or are there other factors like centralisation, admin level of ruler that come into play which briefly checking the internet seems to suggest there is.

I guess I can't continue colonising/conquering until i've got some more cores, right?

Thanks, that took some figuring out but it was useful.

So basically i have to wait for a while before I expand now because my core/non-core ratio is not good enough and if I get one more city then i get to 100 which, because of my centralisation rating, means over extension.

I wonder if people would recommend I play through overextension (+3% global revolt risk and stability cost +50%) and continue colonising or wait it out until i get more cores (the boring option).

I'm currently playing thru it.
i took the reduce national revolt advisor and national idea.
The thing is any of the solutions to overextension - gain cores, better leader, more decentralization - all take a lot of time, and i don't want to wait 50 years to resume expansion.

last night was playing with a justintv viewer for my phone, looking for sc2 streams. Someone was actually streaming eu3 and had almost 300 viewers.

Tried the CK2 demo. Have no idea what the **** is occuring, mostly because all the titles and names dont make sense, my vassals hate me and my armies always die.

Also when my levies get killed down a bit they dont reinforce. Do i have to disband and reraise?

Spies: What's up with the spy successfully igniting a revolt and then no revolters appear?
Are there some hidden parameters or is it a bug?

support revolt increases revolt risk, which may not always lead to a revolt. there are also fund x options, which are more expensive, but always give a revolt (and give you control over what type of revolt it is.

My plans have been switched to Sunday, so I'm free Saturday... but it seems like we've already decided to play Sunday anyway.

Played some Crusader Kings 2, no idea what I'm doing but getting there gradually. I started off as Castille. First I took over some one province muslim country. Navarra lost its 2nd province so I made it my vassal. The King of Galicia died giving me a claim so I declared war and set my heir up as the King of Galicia. Eventually I died so my heir inherited everything and I am now playing as Galicia. At this point I had about 850 gold and since every kingdom in northern Spain is relatives of yours I just stared assassinating people. After about 4 or 5 assassinations I inherited the Kingdom of Leon and the Duchy of Navarra.

Leon had conquered a couple muslim countries so I recieved them too. They promptly revolted. Then my douchebag brother decided he wanted to be King and revolted, a couple provinces joined in the revolt. Aragon also joined in against me. Then the **** who I had displaced in Galicia for my heir originally (who was a 6 year old girl at the time) revolted as well. After I got them generally in line the muslim Toledo joins in with my revolting muslim vassel and they bring about 2.5k troops with them. Luckily I had married a relative into the English royal family so they sent about 2k troops down to help. During this time one of my provinces revolted every once in a while. This war went on for probably 9 years.

My dip**** brother was inprisoned during this time but his **** wife kept bothering me to release him so finally I did and a month later he revolts again. Originally when he revolted he didn't have a Landed Title. So he asked me for one and I gave it to him and he thanked me was revolting.

Currently it is the year 1205. My daughter just married the King of England but other than that I don't really have any relatives married around. Next step is to finally get rid of one province Aragon and then take over Barcelona. Everything to my south is controlled by muslim kingdoms.

Looks like we need a new network, maybe we should all just use Skype or something since we're only even using Hamachi for chat?

**** it, let's just skip today - 10 minutes and no responses ITT, gonna take forever to get everyone coordinated on some other chat vehicle to start the game.

For next week, though, we should use Skype imo - if you haven't used it, you can make groups much like our Hamachi group that persist over time. Seems convenient. Add me - goofyballer2p2

Do you get any benefits at all for having more positive tolerance of a religion (i.e. is there a difference between +1 and +4 tolerance)? I started an Ottomans game in SP and after enacting Ottoman Tolerance (+3 tolerance for heretics/heathens), the only difference I'm noticing is that I no longer have a tax penalty for intolerance in shiite/christian provinces. Should I even bother converting provinces anymore?

More mercantilism/free trade questions - playing as Ottomans I decided to go Mercantilist for once, and put a CoT in Thrace and conquered Astrakhan/Alexandria. I'm trying to figure out where my mercantilism bonus comes into play though...

The only place it mentions mercantilism vs free trade is to say that it hurts me. wtf?

I think tolerance increases growth rate as well as lowering revolt risk. You have -20% compete chance, but +48% when you own the COT, or at least that's how I thought it works.
Europa Universalis 3 - New and Improved! (with ongoing MP game and AARs) Quote

Yeah, that's my CoT in Thrace, so I'd expect the +48%.

I think it's doing something right, because as you can see my compete chance is 99%, but the screenshot isn't explaining how at all (edit: and adding up all the numbers does yield 88.6% like it says when comparing me to Ulm, so where the heck is the +48% coming into play??).

On another note, I noticed Venice had two provinces, both of which were fairly nice CoTs, and zero allies, and obv as Ottomans I have a Holy War CB against them. YES PLEASE!

Trade map of Europe right before annexing them: (blue = Venezia, brown = Istria)

And right after annexing them:

Well, ****, I suppose I can destroy these worthless pieces of **** now and Thrace will benefit:

Y U NO LIKE MY MUSLIM CoTS EUROPE?!??!?!?!

(guess I might as well reload and keep one or both to troll Austria/Italy)

(you're welcome, Genoa)

Okay, I think this post from the Paradox forums helps explain mercantilism and the confusing screenshots above:

Quote:
With Divine Wind, the difference between mercantilism and Free Trade is no longer focussed on who owns the CoT. Mercantilism now gives compete chance bonusses for each province that trade via the CoT that you own. If you own a CoT surrounded by foreign territory, mercantilism will no longer help you there. If you are a small nation, mercantilism will not help you even if you own a CoT.

Besides, the concept of trade range has been introduced. You can only trade in CoTs that are within your trade range, which is increase with Free Trade and decreased with Mercantilism.

Bottom line: Free Trade is useful if you want to trade outside your territories and/or if you are small. As in most cases most of the trade is outside your territories, most people agree that Free Trade is the superior option, as it also gives increase trade efficiency.
Later in thread:

Quote:
In Divine Wind, if you own a CoT whose trade mainly comes from foreign provinces, mercantilism won't give you a bonus. The way mercantilism works in DW is that for each province that trades in a CoT that is owned by you (or by a league member), you get a bonus in compete chance for that CoT. However, base compete chance is lowered with Mercantilism, so in the extreme case you own almost none of the province that trade throught a CoT, you even get a penalty to compete chance!

So the strategy of just taking a CoT and stuff it does not work anymore if you have Mercantilism. If you have Free Trade it will work, but then again with Free Trade it would also work without taking the CoT.
That must be where my huge bonus for "We own 92.5% of the trade value: +67.5%" in the sshot comes into play - the fact that I own the vast majority of provinces that trade through Thrace? Though I have no clue how 48% (my "Merchant compete chance from owned provinces" bonus for -4 mercantilism) is used to get 67.5 from 92.5.

Question for Ranok/history peoples: is it very historically accurate for Anatolia to be in the same culture group as North Africa/the Middle East? A lot of the Turkic cultures are in Central Asia (provinces that are all Altaic in the game), but maybe the cultural makeup of the Muslim world was way different 600 years ago compared to now?
