Is there a reason you aren't using rupture or Tricks?

Had my first taste of ICC today. Took us ~ an hour to do one boss (Rotface), but once everyone figured out how to best kite the slime we got it done. Pretty fun.

I love it when I take the time to build the VoA25 with me as the only DK, and the only T10 piece I have on that character drops again.

Rupture is bad and has been for quite a while in any pve spec.

The trick with mutilate is keeping up the envenom buff, and getting off 90% of your mutilates with the envenom buff up.

Pooling energy is tricky?

No, because you have to keep the envenom buff up, which has a 5-6 second duration. Also, envenom+mutilate is about 85-90 energy and if you ever cap out you immediately lose a ****load of dps.

Rupture isn't used anymore.

Tricks on cooldown to focus target obv.



I haven't quite figured this out yet.

The envenom buff is 1 second per cp. I don't see how you can keep it up all the time given the regeneration rate of energy.

I'm obviously not an expert on rogue dps yet. I was just shocked that the rotation is basically just two buttons like an arcane mage. Plus HfB and Tricks whenever they're down. But that's not any different than popping arcane power or mana gem on cooldown. HfB once a minute, tricks every 30ish seconds. My perception of rogues in the past has been a nightmare of frantic button mashing. I was surprised to see that is not the case.

On my mage, I *was* frantically spamming mousewheel down so as to not lose any casting time. On the rogue, you can literally just sit there and casually wait until your energy pools after hitting your 2 buttons to deplete it.

But yeah, any rogues with tips on executing max DPS?

I basically use my abilities as soon as I have the energy to do so. Should I be waiting until I hit 90+ energy to do my mutilate/mutilate/enevenom? Will I have better uptime of the envenom buff that way? Or does it not really matter?

You do it the other way around.

1. You have slice running, hfb up, 4-5 cp.
2. Pool some energy
3. Envenom into muti
4. How many CP do you have? <4? get another muti off in the remaining duration of the envenom buff. Do you have 4-5? Pool energy, wait for the envenom buff to run out and go back to 1.

Loads of rogues do this completely wrong and miss out on ****loads of dps because of it. One thing to remember, however, is that capping out on energy is the worst thing that can happen and should never happen.

I would have figured this out eventually, but you definitely just saved me the effort.

Hang on to your 4+CP until 95 energy, THEN envenom/MutX2. Making sure not to overlap envenom debuffs.


And yeah, I only envenom with 4+ CP.

Ok, I think they made the change to envenom when I was away from the game, but I was under the impression that ruptureless cycles depended on your gear level. I haven't read the EJ thread in a long time because I honestly don't care about the theorycrafting as much as I used to.
When Randiek says "pool some energy," it has been my experience that you should be pooling about 65-75 energy when you envenom. Anytime you pool more energy than that, you run the risk of energy capping which has already been explained as huge DPS loss.

I should have my 4pc T10 by the end of the week and am really looking forward to the extra combo point generation. Maybe things will calm down in real life and then I can find the time to raid with a more consistent schedule and group.

Don't pool this much. Often you will get a combo point from your finisher and 1 extra from mutilate. If you pool 95 you will often have to clip your envenom to prevent capping on energy when you get 4 CP from envenom+muti.

I've been off WoW for about a year, thinking of comming back to it. But dang it dont want to be hung up on this all the time again. !!!! ARGH!!!!!!!!!!

id wait for the expansion personally. i feel like the average guild has downed LK on at least 10 man and the summer is right around the corner which means it will be harder and harder to find 25 people to do a raid.

that being said its pretty simple to get ilvl232 gear doing heroics now which will make you raid ready for icc10 imo

if it helps, the game is incredibly casual-friendly now. Heroic badges give decent rewards, and with the new random heroic cross-server system it's really easy to get into heroics. You don't have to spend as much time playing now as you maybe did in the past. The new raids are pretty easy to get into too, and most pugs can handle the first bunch of bosses most of the time.

However, I agree with the other guys and would recommend staying away until a few weeks before the expansion pack drops. I'm not going back until they drop the new patch 4.0 a few weeks before the xpac.
