Sooner or later WoW is probably going to do an underwater expansion. That pic-like thing could be an ocean floor or an energy burst inside water, but how knows. Anyway speculation seems futile.

Yeah, the explanation on sclegacy seems a bit weak/far-fetched, but logic dictates that it's not WoW based with another expansion already well under way, and starcraft is already in development, so why work on another RTS game when SC2 will be out first and guaranteed to be a monstrous success instantly? That logically leaves D3 as the "next game in line", although they could come out of left field with a completely new title, possibly in a completely different universe & genre. D3 makes the most sense though, which will add yet another blizzard title to keep me panting (**** WoW tho imo).

In other news, SC2's release date has been added as Dec 3rd on several prominent websites (bestbuy, circuit city, and gamestop), but this isn't official yet and, as always, is subject to change. Obviously they would love a holiday release though.

AFAIK, these updated target release dates are recent, but there had been speculation/estimation for some time that the game would be out in December. However, I think given that they're still in the process of building the zerg and putting the finishing touches on the terrans, December seems a bit too soon. They will meticulously test and retest every aspect of gameplay, and inevitably have to tweak/add on/remove some units from the game. After they have the general balance of the game in terms of units & effective counters, they'll then have to work on the #'s (HP's, dmg, armor, etc.)

I would estimate it'll be out in February. Keep in mind that my observations and guesses are based solely on what I've been reading about the development. I also have absolutely no qualifications to make these guesses so take everything with a spoonful of NaCl.

sc2 is already way too announced and in the works to let this be another sc game.

personally i think it's about the lich king wow expansion -- i mean, even the image has this light-blueish theme. i think they're going to officially announce it's release and give a demo or something of some sorts.

First of all, too obvious; there'd be no drama if the ice-looking splash screen simply meant they were going to announce the official release date of WotLK. Also, blizzard never officially announces release dates until they are completely sure that the game is in it's final, polished state. "It's done when it's done." I haven't been reading much about it, but I doubt the expansion is that far along already, even though they were working on it before they announced it. Finally, from sclegacy, "Splash screens appear on their [Blizzard's] homepage only prior to new game announcements (a tradition that started with StarCraft: Ghost on 2001)."

A very recent development on Day 2's splash screen (taken from www.sclegacy.com) :

"Day 2's splash screen has been released. Not only has the image transformed but a new symbol has become clear on the right side. It is quite obviously a Hel rune from Diablo II. The one on the left now seems to resemble a Shael rune from Diablo II as well. It appears as though the Diablo rumors/theories were correct."

There are pictures of said runes magnified and brought out on the website, as well as additional supporting evidence. Exciting news imo.

I'd really love Diablo III. But realistically I don't think that that's what the announcement is about. Because Diablo III is already out there. It's called World of Warcraft.

WoW inherits much, much more from Diablo II than from the Warcraft games. And Blizzard would be competing with themselves if they made D3.

Yeah, I've been wanting a Diablo III because I feel that the Diablo universe is more fitting for an MMORPG than the Warcraft universe. Unfortunately, I always knew the above was true so I kind of expected nothing would come out for awhile.
