I finally made it out of act 1 last night. Hoping my merc becomes useful at some point. For now, he just wonders around and talks **** to me. I think I saw him twice during the act 1 boss fight. *******.

I think act 1 took me about 7 hours and I explored everywhere. At 9.5 hours now somewhere in act 2, still trying not to miss anyplace on a map.

The advice I gave him was, "Explore as much as you can now because you won't want to once you hit Nightmare."

FUUUUUUU this game is some awesomely difficult.

13 hours!!!

It took me just less than 17hrs to finish all of normal and I was lvl 31 when I finished. I can't imagine where he'll be at if he keeps that up.
I played through act 1 completely, one game instance, explored everywhere, did all events (that were present) and listend to all the dialog and it took me ~7

I like how you can tell how stable the servers are by the number of people viewing the subforum.

Server is up and working = ~25-30

Server is down = 90+

Need help beating a mob, but I'll put in spoilers:

Spoiler:

I've tried over 10 times now. They throw down fire AOE and then run and put down these green slimes. I get 1 down to about 20% and they just instantly reheal like it's nobody's business. I am about .2 seconds away from bypassing them, but ffs, it's near impossible. I've tried just about everything. They just run and reheal. I get close, they throw fire and slime and I have to back away or I'll die.

I don't know what else to do other than just bypass them. My templar is damn near half ******ed. He hasn't done **** for me. He dies about once every 2.5 seconds.

I dunno.

I played WoW for a while and I will admit I was looking for any reason to not want to play Diablo. Read every post of the thread leading up to its release, tons of reviews, etc. and wanted to find a reason I wouldn't like this game.

So far I only played last night up to lvl 12 as a wizard and I while I am still rusty, and the mouse based movement is still awkward, I know this game is going to win me over.

Why would you actively look for reasons to NOT do something for fun?

D3 is way better than WoW for a bunch of reasons IMO.

1. It's not subscription based, you don't feel like you "lose" money by not playing it.
2. It's a fast paced game, not slow paced.
3. You can solo if you want or party if you want, it's up to you.
4. Item hunting is much more fun than killing the same boss every week and just hoping he drops what you want. D3 has a much more slot machine approach, you never know when you are about to hit the jackpot and you can play as many pulls as you want.

Agreed for most of those reasons and many more. Exception is #1. You can not play WoW at all and still not "lose".

I meant if you are paying for something monthly and don't use it you feel like a sap, you may feel compelled to play when you might otherwise not want to, to get your money's worth, etc.

I never notice my mercs really doing anything (I use Templar when I single player) but they never die either. Are you giving them stat items? Like for a templar, you definitely want vit and I suppose str if you want him to kill stuff too.

I know what you meant, and I meant my answer in sort of two ways. Sort of a troll response and actual response.

Seriously though, you shouldn't feel compelled to do something just cause you paid in advance. That's a good way to possibly make yourself less happy.

Mercs damage is absolutely terrible and they don't have the skills you do either obviously, so they don't really exist for killing.

The templar seems to be a good tank for you, distracting some of the monsters off of you. The other two just help you out also but either buffing your own damage or disabling enemies.

The +3% crit skill the scoundrel gives is better than anything else he does, that translates into a lot more damage for me.

Basically it's still up to you to help you kill everything, they are more just auxilliary support.

But if you do wanna boost their damage somewhat remember mercs have a primary attribute, just like players. Templar = str, Scoundrel = dex, Enchantress = int

Well, just finished act 1

(plot/game spoilers)

Spoiler:
Really? The butcher? He was from D2, right? Or is he just in every diablo?

Had problems fighting him like a man, so I just sat far away and run & gunned him with ease

No, D1. And it was an awesome fight in D1. You basically couldn't get anywhere near his melee range. He was legit scary. Not like this game.

i have my templar merc fitted out with mostly rares (good ones too), and i have him set to mostly use abilities to tank and take aggro off me. he does die sometimes, but he is a good distraction for mobs while i aoe. between mirror image and my merc, i can sit safely back lots of times and just rain down hell on the hellthings.

Can you have more than just the templar following you?
