I really don't know where to go next. I've gotten the Lordvessel so I guess I should go for the four lords.

I've been running around in New Londo Ruins and found my way into the Abyss. But I kind of want to do the New Londo Ruins boss first, but I have no idea where he is.

I've been looking into weapon upgrade paths for my strength-based warrior (no magic at all). It seems like a good way to go would be to get a standard weapon to +5 and then go down the divine route. Lower base physical damage than a +15 weapon, but lots of magical damage. The divine weapon also wouldn't scale as well with stats but the magic damage should make up for that. Does that sound right?

Since Divine scales with faith, that doesn't sound too good with a strength based char.

I'm considering doing a 'normal' +15 weapon with decent strength scaling and cast Great Magic Weapon on it when I need something extra. Does that sound like a good idea?

Just going +15 is a good idea, as are lightning weapons (most things are weak vs. lightning).

The Abyss fight IS the boss fight of New Londo.

According to wikis, a divine longsword scales with both strength and faith, though better with faith.

**** Anor Londo seriously. I'm at the part where you have to run past the two iron archers. I've never even gotten close to get past the right one.

Yea that partis a real bitch. Yiu can get poison attows to kill them. Or if your like me and lazy, just run for it and get as close as possible to the knight on the right. At a certain range the archer on the left wont be able to hit you. When you get close to the archer on the right he will put his bow away and try to attack you with a sword and will fall off the cliff. The bonfire is right after him

There is no boss in New Londo Ruins, just the Four Kings in the Abyss. Make sure you get the Very Large Ember from New Londo and possibly farm the Ghost Blade.

That bit put me on rage tilt, but thankfully it was the first (and only) time that Dark Souls went from good-difficult to cheap-difficult. It felt out of characyer from the rest of the game up to that point.

Seriously don't even know what to do about Quulag. You gotta stay close to her but then she'll do that like red air move out of nowhere (sometimes she'll do the animation so you can start sprinting, sometimes it just happens with no animation up close) that is unblockable and will do in about 80% of my life bar. Sometimes I'm not even sure why I'm dying.

I also wasted hours not realizing there was a firepit right near her, I've done the run from the other bonfire to her about 20 damn times. D'oh. I was totally freaking cuz I only have one purple moss left.

This game is seriously so beautiful though, the art direction and everything is just fantastic and the scale just seems huge. Like in Blighttown you're in this gross ramshackle swamp but at certain angles you look up and just see these massive castle walls that create the shadows your in. I love how connected the whole world feels and the enormity of it all. And there's so much detail too. The view of the castle from the black knights tower is also amazing. Wish there was a screen capture button.

Yeah, I've been trying to path him off the ledge but so far he seems more interested in beating my ass with his sword.

Equip a shield with good MagDEF brah, makes the huge AoE spell hurt a toooooooooon less.

This x1000. Getting to Anor Londo and looking down at the castle from the initial staircase is absolutely incredible. Add to that the fact that you basically explore all of what you can see and it's flooring.

Take the left one out first, not on the ledge but run down to him on the house top, that way you avoid being hit by the right one, then shield up and run to the right one and kick him off.

Finally beat Gwyn yesterday after like 20 tries or so.
Spoiler:
First I always tried to kill him in the open, but imo the key is to use one of the obstacles and a long range weapon (lifehunt scythe ftw) to circle around and take him down very slowly.
I had to level up a bit before because I always ran into stamina probs at some point and then he eats you alive. Was a fun fight, definitely the toughest boss in the game as it should be.

This might have been the best gaming experience I ever had in my life and I might also do another NG+ and pvp a bit. But I must say that with all those bosses and mini bosses I would have expected a little more variety. Most bosses have one aoe and several melee attacks. So its always avoiding the aoe attack, get close behind, attack, retreat and repeat. Although it might really be the toughes game anyones ever played I highly recommend to everyone to try it out. Once you figure out how all the game mechanics work (espacially combat) together it actually became a little bit of a breeze, after Gargoyles and except Gwyn I defeated all bosses in at most 4-5 tries, I cooped Ornstein and Smough though... To everyone hesitating to buy get it you wont regret!

I've come so close to beating her twice. I think the key is to get close to her and to the side of her front. If you do that she mostly does the breathe fire attack which you won't be in the way of. That's an opportunity to hit her a couple if times, three if your equip load is less than 50% of max. You need to try and maintain that position and resist the temptation to attack at other times. If you back off too much, she does that fire spit that creates a large pool of lava on the floor. That can totally screw you up. The red roar attack is really nasty, that's what's killed me several times.

Wow shield made a world of difference, I had been going in with equipment that had the highest fire resistance, just got the Crest shield from the asylum which has 80 magic defense which is twice what the shield I was using had and it really made it so much easier to stay alive. Ty Richard.

Must have battled her 30 times, almost did a touchdown dance when I killed the bitch.

Got owned by bells came back with drake and I killed the first one pretty much before the second one came out just going two handed house.

If anyone missed the crow trader (I had trouble even finding it when I read where it was) definitely check the trading list, some good stuff. Just hurl yourself off the cliff after you drop the items after resting at that bonfire you'll respawn and just run up and do it again.

Keep that shield "trick" in mind as you progress. Whenever you find yourself getting eaten alive in those spots, try adjusting your armor/shield to specific resists.

Dark Souls is getting crazy at my place. Two roomates are into it; one's a Knight the other is a Bandit.

I'm going to have to get swept up and start on the magic side of things b/c neither is a magic-related character.

Which magician is the best? Why?

Also: Has anyone passed the game in this thread yet? If so, what was the total time to pass it? My friends are saying it will take the rest of their lives.

I've been thinking about doing a sorcery-type character, since my current guy is pure melee.

I was thinking sorcery/pyromancy and some sort of enchanted weapon.

But I need to finish the game on my melee guy first. I've gotten the lordvessel and need the 4 lords now. I've taken my time and is sitting on 70 hours played. But I've been 'pausing' the game sometimes by just going away from the game and coming back later while it was still on.

I think I finished the final boss at about 85hrs played. Bear in mind though that I did a fair bit of item farming just to have a nice varied arsenal of weapons. Also, with no pause, I'd often leave it running unattended whilst I ate, let controller charge etc.

I'd say about 60-70 hrs sounds about right for a first playthrough.

Nothing comapred to that speedrun on Youtube, it's incredible. 1 hr 28m and he's done. The guy must have been a QA tester or something, he knows the game inside out.

Article on IGN comparing Dark Souls to Skyrim: http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/119/1196353p1.html.

It reads like they wrote the article to bring attention to Dark Souls and cause some debate. But as I've played Dark Souls it has occurred to me that it is taking a number of leaves from the Elder Scrolls games' book, namely a large contiguous world and third person-combat. Only Dark Souls is pulling these things off much better than Oblivion did. Oblivion's massive world was mostly empty and the combat was absolute garbage. The Dark Souls' world is beautiful, varied and filled with tough, enjoyable combat. Obviously the games are focusing on different aspects of an RPG game (though both are lacking in true role-playing). But I've had a helluva lot more fun with Dark Souls than I ever had with Obliviion. If Dark Souls had stronger story elements, it would be one of the best games ever imho.
