I'm playing gnk and I'm stuck on immortal. I can beat king and emperor but on immortal the enemy cities grow double speed and constantly spawn units. Also superaggro...

me too I can beat immortal when I play a smaller # of civs and I don't get rushed pre xbows but more than 5 civs and its really hard to pull it off. what I kept trying to do was continents and then like 10 civs it was freaking impossible. you'd always get a runaway that beats me at 1600 ad and he gets a science victory when I just hit industrial age lol. I pulled it off one time though when i was a massive freaking arabia and went all out economy and won the UN. Didn't get as bad a run away and stole a huge continent to myself ousting 4 other civs.

lol Immortal winstrat: Go honor and war immediately with CB. I settle one or two extra cities max depending on how good my land is, but generally after my first war is well underway. Take one (or if you are lucky two) capitals before xbows. Capital cities are worth way more than cities you can settle. Make sure your ranged units don't die as promotions are priceless. By the time you have xbows you should have ~5 units with at least range+ and hopefully soon 2x strike. Those 5 bows will probably be enough to win the entire game for you as the AI won't ever be able to counter them effectively. If you take out 2 civs before your xbows are obsolete the game should be over and you could easily win tech or domination.

Last game I played with this strat was Ethiopia (for first war combat bonus) and I had the victory screen before 1700ad (epic, normal settings, pang). Pretty much the only one paragraph strategy I know of.

i mean yeah thats essentially it.

let them build the wonders and stuff for you.

just build enough to get by and just pump troops and start killing barbs and taking capitals and getting promotions.

you have to act fast in immortal and deity

another thing i like to do is declare on someone and setup on their border with lots of range and some melee protecting them and just wait for them to send their **** to you and you make it rain on them with your range and soon they will run out of money to purchase units and u can walk in with minimal interference.

ya don't get yourself caught into a death funnel tho. I failed on a pretty competitive game because the ai had a city that had jungles and hills connected to 1 tile you can attack from. (coast on the right and a mountain behind it. the land behind was a buncha plains and if I took that city, being arabia i would make short work of a number of their cities so I decided to take this insanely easy to defend spot and when i spent 2 wars not able to succeed I quit. the terrain is everything. he had too much navy to really do anything navy wise and I tried setting up artillery and cannons around the hills and use riflemen and later gats to defend the artillery but it wasn't enough... think I got the city down to 5 hp a at one point when they killed the rifleman that was fortifying the hill next to the city he was able to counter push and kill off some of the cannons and artilleries. I probs coulda beat him if I kept playing cus artillery unlocked if i went to attack the target in the west i almost went for from the beginning but I lost too much time to win and it feels like the game is broken at artillery. the ai falls too easily once you can hit them with 3 range seige unites.

Just wanted to say there's no feeling quite like getting spawned right next to Monte, fast expanding around his capital on hills, rushing construction for composite bowmen, then watching the cheesing ******* ais 25 troop by turn 30 horde all crushed and taking his capital shortly therafter.

So, I just started playing this game. I'm basically winning all categories in my first game.

Took over a capital, but let the dude live in one of his other towns. Got war declared on me, he wanted peace, and gave me one of his cities.

My advisers keep saying to make workers, but I don't know where to put them. Do I just improve everything? I have quite a bit of military left over also, do I need to sell them off?

No, don't sell your military. Use it to take more cities. You either want an army just big enough to defend what you have (and go for a peaceful victory condition) or an army big enough to attack.

Also, if you are winning all categories, its time to up the difficulty level. Congrats.

FYI: Sometime recently the "Conquest of the New World Deluxe Scenario" was released for free to anyone who has Brave New World. This is a modification of the old scenario that was previously released with the Spain and Inca Civs as DLC. I believe the original scenario used vanilla settings- it has been updated to include new mechanics through Brave New World.

I dunno, I was ranked 1 in everything, but the religion guy has all the allies. He's dying soon though, since he declared war on me. This is only my first game, and I really don't have a firm grasp of what is going on.

well, if your enemy has all the allied city states you are in danger of diplo loss maybe, so you arent winning in everything

dont improve everything, monitor your cities population focus assignment manually

I still gotta learn how to manage all of that.

I do know that I was so far ahead in military tech that when he declared war and like the 4 surrounding CSes did also, I fended everything off with no issues. They denounced me a ton. Guess that just means that they hated me and was trying to keep my happiness down.

If you enjoy Civ 5, you will enjoy Europa Universalis IV exponentially more.

If you enjoy Civ 5, you will most likely enjoy Europa Universalis IV exponentially more. It has much more depth and variety of gameplay, which should appeal to the above-average intelligence of your average 2+2'ers who breathes through their nose.

There I added some weasel words so that my statement is more correct. Endless nittery abounds.

The point is, if you like Civ 5, and you haven't picked up EU4, you are doing yourself a disservice.

I've played quite a lot of both and think I prefer civ5. The problem with both is that you spend a lot of time on the grind, but in EU4 I guess I find the grind less interesting. Messing around with travel times and rerolling generals and stuff is just annoying for me.

I've been nursing my Austrian empire for a while. I got really annoyed just now realizing my uber "Shou" vassal was a protectorate and he went rogue after westernizing.
