Thanks for the feedback. I think for $30 it's worth trying for a first timer. So all this DLC, that's just different civilizations you can stat out as?

Why don't you get Civ IV + expansions? it's dirt cheap by now and apparently unanimously considered far superior to V. i bought it a couple months also having never played any Civ games and it's a lot of fun.

I still haven't heard anything back from them after 48 hours so this morning I sent an email to the person listed in the original email I sent. At this point I am ready to tell them to shove their game where the sun don't shine.

I did manage to get in one time before the new problems started. Then they finally answered my email but didn't seem to understand that I sent it 2 days before the new problems started. Never did get approved for the forums though.

You guys still playing the facebook game? I assumed we'd all be put together but eventually I realized that wasn't the case; I'm in Egypt and we're currently owning everyone. =P

oh no, I hoped civ 5 would be the nuts. I quite liked the idea of your armies being more permanent and less dispensable, its a shame to read that long critique from mittens.

i was a big fan of all the civs (starting with 1 on the amiga) but especially 2 and 3. 4 was good but not great imo, when i need a civ fix now i play 2. still considering getting a better computer on a limited budget just to play 5.

Annoyed I didn't get on the beta. Is it an American only thing? Travian-like?

Honestly, you aren't missing much. It is a lot like Travian, though the gameplay is certainly more passive. I have been playing for a week or so, and am already bored.

anyone played this recently? any new updates?

There was a new patch yesterday. Have only played once so don't know much about it. Looks like some midgame wonders became useful. Added a new resource. Made great people's special buildings a bit better.

Every time this thread gets bumped, I get angry that I actually spent money on this POS game on release day. I've only played 1 single game and won't touch it again unless it has been completely overhauled in a 4gb patch.

Cliffs:
- I'm angry
- Game sucks
- It would take ALOT of work to make this game not suck
- I didn't answer your question

wow so

gamersgate has it on sale for 17 bucks *1 day only* and it still isn't worth that much?

I played a game a few days ago for the first time in a while. I built two cities and randomly constructed buildings until I won a culture victory two hours later. This was on the second hardest difficulty.

Firaxis' idea of balancing a game is making it impossible for the player to make a bad decision.

Looks like CivWorld is public now. Is it any good?

It's like Strongold Kindoms etc. It's a game you play 5 minutes every few hours to check up on anything. It really hasn't much to do with the AAA version of Civ.

I played it when it was in Beta. It's one of the better Facebook games, but I got pretty bored of it by the end. Can't hurt to try it out though!

Did this game ever get better or is it still terrible?

It got better.

I was playing the **** out of it, but I've been busy with other things.

Stop being so butt-hurt.

This isn't true.

They solved a lot of the balance issues and bugs. But the game is still 1 unit per tile, so if you prefer fighting with SOD's, you're not going to like it.

But the game is absolutely fine.

You people are too harsh on Civ 5

I've been playing Civ since I had 4 black Civ 1 floppy disks on the Amiga 600. That means I am an authority on the subject and that you, dear reader, are an ignoramus who needs to shut up and listen to me.

City states ruin the game, so I play without any. Diplomacy sucks ass. I should be able to have my cities auto-fire on pesky barbarian triremes.

However, new civic system is better, one unit per tile is LOTS BETTER and ranged units being ranged units is good.

That said, I have played a lot more 4 than I will play 5, so parhaps i'm a hypocrite.

For next civ game..

Diplomacy should be a huge part of the game, obviously.

Radically unbalance civs depending on the age. If i'm Britain during the classical age I want to be hanging on for dear life while superior Roman troops batter down my cities. But if I can hang on till feudalism, then gg Caesar. I want the civ I choose to dictate how I play.

Social policies should be more influential.

Religion done properly. Holy wars. Pope. Earthquakes n **** if you dont build enough temples.

No more examples of Longbowmen damaging Tank. If your unit strength is 1/3 of mine then you lose by default and it doesn't even count as an attack. Shouldn't have brought a knife to a gunfight bitch.

Do something with the fighter/bomber dynamic cause right now it sucks. Bombing the crap out of your enemies city should be a pleasure, instead its a drag.
