I'm finding I'm having a MUCH MUCH tougher time mentally mapping out the areas in this game vs any of the Dark Souls games. Like all this dense forests and cemeteries with similar looking mini-areas confuse the hell out of me lol.
Forbidden woods is regarded as the most confusing area by many. There's actually a faint path that leads through the woods to the boss, but to get all the loot and items you'll need to explore the whole area and like the poster above mentioned there's a cool side path by the dogs cages. Once you've put enough hours into the game you'll hopefully get an appreciation for the great level design in Bloodborne.
Don't worry about level, always level up to where it's a challenge, but not impossible. You're actually quite early in the game. As always talk to all the NPCs you can and read all the item descriptions. A Hunter must hunt.
