A few days ago the entire place was packed for super metroid. FF7 was right after that run and the place emptied considerably. I don't know if it's the late start times or that games they picked for late start times have very long run times (4+ hours for EB, 8 for FF7), but the last games of the day never seemed to get very full.

End of the marathon was great, but Jim was right - not very crowded. I think GDQs are mostly people partying in other rooms from what I've heard.

That makes sense. I remember it being crowded at the end of AGDQ, but maybe thats cause they ended with super metroid and undertale.

(1) No Super Metroid. I think this is a good idea. Hard to feel as much hype if it's always on the schedule. But if AGDQ typically brings in more money than SGDQ, maybe eliminating the game from SGDQ 2017 would have been a better choice? (in b4 the GDQ "charities" are useless)


(2) Final 3 games on the schedule should be a solid finale. For all of the Zelda fanboys, has anyone played any of the randomizers? (It's also popular among the pokemon speedrunners). I played a bunch of LTTP randomizers in ~2016, and they're fun, though the novelty wore off after my ~7th-8th game.


(3) Despite not many classics appearing on the schedule, this lineup looks more promising than recent years. Or perhaps I simply caught some positive variance and there happen to be more games that I like this time <shrug>

Wow already for adgq. **** man bills game and ces coming up. And I wanna watch this now. Too many things all at once.

I get not wanting to keep rehashing the same games, but there are very few games in that lineup i've even heard of even having grown up in the 80s, and there typically aren't many runners that are worth watching for a game you're not interested in.

Save the animals vs kill the animals always got a stupid amount of donations, so if you were going to do Super Metroid once a year it seems to make sense to have the Super Metroid run for the winter marathon.

But, I don't really care, I'll be watching this week.

There's a lot of random probably old games ive never seen but I'm really curious which ultra popular games like halo, skyrim, baldurs gate, diablo, kingdom hearts, duke nukem, kirby, batman, metal gear, castlevania, metroid, half life, resident evil, turok, TMNinja turtles, battletoad, starfox, mass effect you guys havent heard of?

Actually looking at it more closely, I know most of the games. I guess at first glance I just wasn't as interested in a lot of them as I usually am.

There are a lot of good games for sure, and I guess it isn't that different than usual.

I'll probably watch bits and pieces all week but the only runs I'm super interested in are LTTP randomizer and SMW races, plus a couple of bonus incentives (most notably Super Dram World 2).

Watched the Contra co-op, holy **** I forgot how much lag there is in that game 2-player.

Wednesday evening UK time (so mid-afternoon EST?) looks decent, Batman race, Snake Rattle 'n Roll, TMNT, Battletoads, Metroid then Strider tutorial. Will be making sure to watch that as the rest of the schedule is AIDS

speedrunning was a nice escape for me during peak siglemic/puncayshun years, but i've grown to feel bad for the runners. hardcore grinders most likely suffer from depression to some degree. i look at cheese05 (not sure if he's participating) and see a guy with superhuman talent that chooses to play n64 all day. it just seems a bit tragic. although obviously people like caleb hart break the mold and create fun communities for loners to partake in.
