Turn Question (Theory) Turn Question (Theory)

Hey guys,

Here's a spot that comes up all the time: we open OTB, villain flats. We cbet and villain calls. Assuming the turn isn't a good barrel card, it's obvious I can only really have air if I check.

Ex:

I open, villain flats.

Flop: K72r

I cbet, villain calls.

Turn: 5

If I check behind here, villain gets a ton of information: I can't have 88-AA, Kx, A7 because I would have bet all of these for value on the turn. I can think of two ways to combat this:

1) Check back some hands you would normally bet for value and check/call any river (so if villain has been donking river because he realizes we can't have a value hand, we'll snap him off.)

2) Bet blank turns more often when we have air. Obviously, the wider we bet for value, the more often we should bet with air. Any thoughts on how to go about figuring out these frequencies?

If we're giving villain 2:1 odds on turn, I would think we should bet 2/3 for value and 1/3 with air. But this ignores the fact that we don't always have the best hand when we bet for value...

I'll stop before this is tl;dr but would love to hear thoughts,
Mariogs

It's not necessarily a bad thing to have a line for which when you take an action you always lose the pot.
