What's up 2p2, questions abound on this one. Sorta want to just dump it preflop and avoid the headache.

NL Holdem 0.50(BB)
HERO (133.0)
BB (99.5)
UTG (99)
HJ (102.3)
CO (48.2)
BTN (139.6)
Dealt to Hero: 8 A

UTG Folds, HJ Calls 1, CO Folds, BTN Raises To 5 BBs, HERO Raises To 14 BBs, BB Folds, HJ Calls 13, BTN Calls 9

Hero SPR on Flop: [2.05 effective]
Flop (43): 4 7 8
HERO Bets 17.4 (Rem. Stack: 101.5), HJ Calls 17.4 (Rem. Stack: 70.8), BTN Folds

Turn (77.9): 4 7 8 2
Hero?

I would definitely fold pre. A8s is near the bottom of our 3-betting range vs. a BTN open, but I feel like it is just trash vs. a big iso. Compared to a normal BTN opening range, this 5x iso is going to be missing most of the pure steal hands. Also, I find that people who go with the 5x iso are often trying to max punish the rec with their very strong hands. So I like punishing this sizing tell with some tightish folds.

It's awesome that BTN folded the flop, and the turn is obviously a great card. Betting around 1/3 to keep worse made hands around makes some sense. Shoving for max protection makes sense. Even betting some awkward, non-geometric size might work well. I suspect that anything that involves betting is close in value and good enough. I think I like a shove since this guy's fold button seems to be broken based on his pre-flop play. He probably insta-calls, 66, 54, worse 8x, JT, etc.

I let this go pre flop. The issue we're going to have here a lot is the fish is likely to limp call our 3bet and in turn the reg with come along with decent range (albeit capped in this scenario) and we are OOP in an inflated pot with a combo that is going to play poorly MW and often dominated.

I'm all for taking this line on occasion if we're IP, but in this case you're just putting yourself in a difficult spot that could have been avoided.

Ignoring all previous action.

Isn't this a good spot for an over bet as this card essentially improves neither players range? You have SD value and likely only want to be OB with bluffs and nutted hands in our range but this seems like a good spot in theory? We are OOP and can deny equity to most draws.

Interested in others thoughts. This also assumes NOT against a fish but someone who can actually fold more as from a general theory perspective.
