Noobie to micro stakes heads up

I find it hard to play A rag out of position in heads up... I hate playing fit or fold when calling raise, but that is what I start doing when I call

How should I be playing this?

I play sngs but I play 200bb deep sometimes (the deep sngs that play closer to cash)

generally speaking I call all suited aces out of position and fold a7 and worse with an occasional fold of a8 and occasional call of a7... I only call rag aces if my opponent sucks big time and I can have a huge edge postflop... or if they're minraising every button or something.

and I re-raise aj,aq and ak most of the time

imo treat a rag ace like a rag king... you wouldn't call k3o would you?

I like this thought. I never thought of this way before.

Sometimes you can c/r dry boards or make plays depending on your opponent. This varies depending on your read about how aggressive your opponent is and how wet the board is. I would only do this on dry boards against paired boards or something. Obviously this works better when you're deeper because you can c/r/fold to a shove if he comes over the top. This won't solve your problems but it's just something to think about to try and come out of the hit/fold box.

Is this question for HU cash or HUSNG? If it is cash I wouldn't defend anything less than A8 oop and against some opponents A9o and even ATo would be the bottom of my Ax defense range.

What do you do postflop if you miss?

depends on the board texture, my opponent, and what kind of game it is (200bb stacks vs 30bb stacks etc) plus what they do... if they c bet small I'll float, if they check back I'll try to get to showdown etc...

pretty standard stuff I guess. I don't bluff at the pot or do anything stupid though and I'm not trying to win a big pot when I pair up on the turn or river

against what kinds of opponents do you tighten the range?

Defending Axs should be dependent on stack depth. With Ax I would reccomend folding everything but A9+. The reasons for this are

1. You will rarely hit an ace.
2. When you do, you will be out of position, and it will be very difficult to extract value from worse hands without making 2 pair or better.
3. You will get valuetowned by better hands fairly often.

you can just fold A2-8 offsuit, i usually call Ax suited, you can c/r some boards when u miss, or maybe c/c if villain is pretty straightforward on dry boards, usually dont get too out of line tho
