Okay, today I saw a recording of something utterly amazing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDrqBYkco-Y is a live recording from old-school computer demo competition. It sounds pretty awful, but that's beside the point. He's demonstrating sound editing on an ancient computer that should not be able to even
play the tune in question. The CPU has about 4000 (four thousand) transistors.
Of course he's cheating. The tricks are explained, in great detail, on his technical white-paper:
http://www.livet.se/mahoney/c64-file..._Tufvesson.pdf - and even the explanations will probably go way over most peoples' heads. I at least caught a few.
It's like magic. The audience knows they're being fooled big time but even then can't figure out how. Only in this case learning the secrets of the trick does not diminish the value of the performance.
