I have delayed my shots at 50NL on purpose, knowing that I need a psychological safety margin. Basically I'm taking my shots once I have 25 buy-ins. Even if I take a severe beating for 4BI, it won't affect my bankroll that much.

Then, knowing that I can climb back up from the $1k mark with relative ease, I can just rebuild at a level I'm definitely comfortable at.

Taking shots -> getting owned -> moving back down -> I still have bankroll to weather a downswing.

As for everything in life, the basic principle applies: hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

My principle is more: Go for the best, prepare for the best

50NL really doesn't play that different then 25NL, maybe some more good regulars but really, it's not like all of a sudden everybody is making fancy places and is 3-betting you with air and *****

if you can beat 25NL with a good BB/100 and you having a winning style for a certain amount of hands, you will have a winning style at 50NL

I love the thread from Pokey about this subject

For the maths/stats guys.... how often are you supposed to run into set over set?

If you flop a set, it's 50/50 - you are either crushed by a higher set or he will spike a two outer with his overpair on the river.

No really, I've heard if you flop a set, it's something like 1% that they also have a set.

I might be way off with this one.

1/100 times or 1% of the time.

Won 4 BI yesterday in ~790 hands, but I'm a contrary indicator.

That depends a lot as to whether you are set mining with low pairs.

If you and you opponents are playing any pair from any position, and you flop bottom set, in Full Ring by the river it's something like 9% , according to Aarron Brown. On the flop, using his reasoning, it's (6/990)*9 = 5.4%.

Edit: maybe that should be (6/990)*8 for 9 handed FR?

And you flop a set about 1 in 150 hands right?

Um, 1 in 7 times. Are you playing pairs too aggressively and folding out all the villains pre-flop?
02-02-2009 , 01:32 PM
one in 7 times you have a pair. and you have a pair one in 17. looks like... hmmm 1 in 119 to me or so if you play every pair
02-02-2009 , 01:34 PM
I mean 1 in every 150 hands you are dealt, not every pp

Oh right, I was thinking of "hands" in terms of hands we are set mining with to begin with.

Edit: Yeah Ron, 1 in 150 is well withing a standard deviation or so here, AFAIK. Keep in mind I got a gentleman's C in high school statistics though....

So by that reckoning you will get set vs set approx every 12k hands. Less if you reckon in that you don't play every pp.

Just checking cos it's happened to me about 5 times in the last 2k hands and I didn't remember it ever happening so often.

I'd rather be playing outside of my psychological bankroll and playing against opponents who are outside of their psychological bankroll than completely the other way around.

WTF is up with touchbacks and safeties??
A safety is like a touchdown, but backwards.
A touchback is when the ball is downed in the endzone safely.

And I'm not even going to mention Canadian Bacon.
