It might help that I grew up pre-"Free Tibet" (or whatever the kids are on about now) but instead during the height of "End Apartheid" (which we did BTW, suck it Generation Y) but yeah I liked it.

I'm even older, and we successfully averted a nuclear disaster - not quite the way we imagined it, but hey! Looking good for the Dalai Lama imo

ok i need an old person dictionary here - what is jailbreak what is tether?

jailbreak--it's a term used for hacking the iPhone so you can customize it and make it more awesome. Hence my pictures above.

tether--using your cell phone as a modem if your internet goes down or your at an airport or traveling or something....your laptop or desktop is "tethered" to your phone.

Saw the license plate "EVOWNED" on a slick convertible the other day, couldn't decide if it was poker-related

I'm glad I got a picture of this.

Actually 'jailbreak' is used so that you can use any service provider that you want.

'Unlock' is used to customize / install apps / etc.

Yeah you're backwards there buddy.

Per Wikipedia

Quote:
Jailbreaking is a process that allows iPhone and iPod Touch users to run unofficial code on their devices bypassing Apple's official distribution mechanism, the App Store. Once jailbroken, iPhone users are able to download many applications previously unavailable through the App Store via unofficial installers such as Cydia and Icy. It's estimated that 4 million (out of 40 million) iPods and iPhones are jailbroken. [1]
Jailbreaking is distinct from unlocking, which is the process by which a mobile device is made compatible with telephone networks it was not specifically licensed to be used with.

Need some advice FRuNL. I'm heading to LA this weekend and want to get in some pokers. I have the choice between the following casinos:

Commerce
Bicycle
Hollywood Park

Which all spread the following games:

$1/$2, $40 max bi
$2/$3, $100 max bi
$3/$5, $200 max bi

Will be going with about $1k, total roll ~$6k. I won't play over my roll, which is why I won't do the 100bb buyin 5/5, $500 game at Bike. E'ryone says Commerce is the stuff, but I've played there and like trying out new rooms, otherwise it auto-wins. Bike probably #2, but HP is a dive (me likey dives) and is closest to where I'm staying.

Anyone got any thoughts or experience to share about where I should go and what I should play?

Also, my bro has a baby shower Sunday afternoon, so I'm thinking of heading down to San Diego for a bite and a beer that day, if anyone is free.

if your in South LA and don't mind driving, try Ocean's 11. Good games, great food.

Santa Monica.

I don't mind driving, but since I'm ostensibly going to see my brother I don't want to go to far. But maybe I'll try oceans on Sunday, since he's busy.

Santa Monica...that is a long ways away.

From everything I've read in B&M, Hollywood Park is very ghetto and super-sketchy.

Go there!
09-03-2009 , 02:23 PM
If I end up doing $40 flipaments, I'm definitely doing them against the bums and crackheads at Hollywood Park. Not sure that's how I want to spend a Friday night though (flipaments, not degens).

Is this right? Those are max buy ins, not min buy ins? If so, jesus ****ing christ, California ****s up EVERYTHING.
09-03-2009 , 02:30 PM
those have to be min buy ins.

From all I have heard about low stakes live Poker, it seems not too unlikely that those are actually max buy ins. Iirc, it wasn't too long ago that 5/10 at the Commerce had a max buy in of 400 or 600 or whatever. Don't you play low stakes live like shove-shove-shove until you get a stack you can work with?

Its not really a bad thing. The super low buyin California games have variance through the roof, which keeps the fish in the game longer, which keeps the poker economy healthy. Yeah it reduces your edge, but there's a reason LA is the top poker town in the country not Vegas, and its these kind of things that protect the overall player pool, not just the sharks. (Well, that and the vast amount of people and money in the town.)

Gamble gamble.

Worse imo is the "rake" structure. The house can't have an interest in the outcome of the game, so rake cannot vary by pot size, meaning that, basically, max rake is dropped on every pot.
