Wait wtf!!!... I mean i guess it was too good to be true that it lasted this long sigh

The wierd thing i did buy this current laptop for hem2, never got it tho.

umm specs:

- i7 3632 2.2gjz turbo boost 2.9ghz
- 8gb ram
- 750 5400 rpm hdd

So the question is, can the 5400 rpm drive run hem2 at all or is it just the reports and graphs features which would be slow?. Cause if it's just those two features that are slow i would be fine cause i dont use either anyway, i only use it for auto updating while i play n checking sessions tab.

Edit* did a quick search & saw no info on hem1 not updating past april 30th, well played with the april fools joke

Its not an April fool. It just came through on email.

What is end of HM1 support?

It means there will be no updates or technical support for HM1 after April 30th.

HM1 users will be able to log-in and use the software but functionality such as the HUD and hand importing will be significantly impacted when poker sites release updates and/or add new game types. While we cannot predict the timing of future poker site updates, their cumulative impact on core HM1 features mentioned will be significant.

HM1 FAQ’s*will still be available on our website and additional details on the end of HM1 support can be found*HERE.

Why is HM1 support ending?

There have been thousands of updates to HM1 since it’s release in 2006 and more than 100 new download links for HM1 have been provided in the almost 2.5 years since the release of HM2. **

This decision was necessary because it’s time to invest our resources toward supporting more recent technologies so that we can continue to advance our products.

The majority of active Hold'em Manager users have already upgraded to HM2, further emphasizing the importance of making it our primary focus.

Is there a discount available?

Yes, we are extending until April 30th a 40% HM2 upgrade discount and we will authorize a new HM2 one month free trial if yours has expired (click "Extend My HM2 Trial").*

*******

An HM2 free trial DOES NOT extend the HM2 upgrade discount past April 30th. *You must act before May 1st!

Pretty sure a standard HDD will mean HM2 will run slow, not just the reports etc, but HUD also. Can you get an SSD in your laptop? Or use an external one?

Oh and stop auto-updating and checking sessions when you're playing, waste of mental resources to be thinking about your exact results when you're in the middle of a session.

Other than possible performance issues if your computer isn't top spec, how is HM1 in any way better than HM2? Afaik HM2 has all the functionality of HM1, and waaay more on top. Pretty sure NoteCaddy only works with HM2 too.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I know my PC can't run HEM2.

Might have to get PT3 or 4 or go HUDless

I don't think you can get PT3 anymore, and PT4 needs resources as well.

Has anyone upgraded from PT3 to PT4 and had performance issues?

I have the installation file for PT4 downloaded but have never installed it as I'm perfectly happy running PT3 but PT3 updates and support have now stopped so I'll have to upgrade sooner or later. Not sure how much of a resource-hog it is?

When first importing hands on a hard disk I got something like 8 hands per second, so I would call that a performance issue. Sometimes I would also wait a couple of minutes for a report to appear on screen. Maybe they have resolved some of it, but switching to a SSD also helped.

Hem2 & pt4 has trial versions available even if you have used hem1 & pt3 b4 right?.

Noob question. Does the OS actually have to be on the SSD for performance enhancements to Hem2 or is it fine to just buy an SSD, mount it in a spare bay of my PC and then install Hem and the postgres database to that drive?

Uh oh, I'm not liking the HEM thing at all. Some of the regs are gonna get a shock when they upgrade to HEM2 and find out how much I'm 3betting them compared to my actual 3bet stat.

The latter. Putting the OS on the SDD cuts down the boot time, but HEM performance depends mostly on the DB access. Even the HEM program should be ok to be installed on the HD. Of course you have to know how to convince PostGres to store the DB on the SSD.

Thanks Cangurino; what PC spec was this on? Any issues in-game before switching to SSD?

I think this was on a netbook, so not very powerful. I don't remember in-game issues.

I have a windows 7 machine w/ i5 2/5GHz CPU, 6GB RAM & 5400rpm 500Gb HDD. Am I likely to be OK running PT4 on that setup?

It works just fine, unless you have a 2mill hands DB and Nc.
Best is to test it with your DB and your needs and see how it reacts.

obviously, if money is not an issue just upgrade to an SSD and feel the power.

Thanks. Is that last bit tricky? Surely its just a case of making sure postgres is installed to that drive isn't it?

Sorry for butting in to your thread. If anyone else has specific questions about, or problems with, HM2 please post in our support thread and I will be glad to assist as I don't want to derail this thread but felt I might be able to help on a few recent questions.

It is always auto importing as soon as it is launched unless you disable that option in the settings or click the stop hud then stop importing buttons in the main ribbon.

Our HM2 installer will install postgresql to the C drive. If you want to install it to a different drive you need to download version 8.4 or 9.0 from postgresql.org. If it is already installed our faqs explain how to move your database to a different partition

I personally would recommend you get a SSD big enough for windows and your database and install windows to it. That will give you the best overall computer performance in addition to hm2 performance. I hate using my 5400rpm HDD laptop because everything boots/launches so much slower than on my SSD desktop and new SSD tablet.

General rule is 1 million hands = 10 GB.

In reality it's: 1 million hands
HM1: 6.8 GB
HM2: 4.3 GB
PT4: 13.6 GB

So with a 10 million hand database you need as SSD of at least 60 GB (Windows) + 100 GB = 160 GB. We use 1 million = 10 GB (instead of 6.8) because when you want to perform a vacuum/analyse or backup/restore a database it will require a LOT of disk space to perform such a task.

Note: If you use NoteCaddy those numbers above for HM2 will be larger.

agreed 100%

SSD are so cheap now I think it's a waste when people get small ones for just their OS or put it in as spare for just their DB. I bought my 160gb intel ssd in summer 2010 and it cost me $475 but it is plenty of space for my OS and my database, along with a couple big multi-million hand databases when needed for testing. You can get a 250gb SSD for like $150 now which should be plenty of space for most poker players.

Would this do the job?

Is it too much, £££ wise and spec wise?

edit*: just saw Fozzy's post.

Is it better just to buy a SSD and slot into old pc vs new pc with SSD?

I obv have no idea about PC's apart from how to hit the raise button on poker clients

Thanks

^^^ pretty sure alienware is over kill for a poker pc, unless your doing heavy gaming i dont see the point. Then again if $ is not an issue then who cares hahah, your paying for convience pretty much.
