You wont be able to because of essence
03-15-2012 , 07:23 PM
its rly not hard take ur HEM rake, subtract 10%ish if ur mostly breakeven, 35%ish if ur winning a lot, or u can estimate somewhere in the middle.

guys, I would need a bit of help regarding essence. I have a new account at betsafe. So far I played a total of 22,5k hands with it, and raked $ 3542 according to HM, but I only have 6322 points, so my rake according to betsafe is 6322/3,6=1756,11, which is only 49,5% of my real rake.

I have been an ongame player for years so I know essence and was always hit very hard by it, but as far as I remember at least 65-70 % of my HM rake was always recognized by my actual skin/ongame.

I have to mention that with this new sn I had a very high winrate (16,94 bb/100) over this 22,5k hands, so there is a chance that everything is all right, and this is just essence, but I have still never experienced or heard smth like that. so what do you think?

**** happens.. if you win alot above the avg winrate for the limit you are playing.. essense f**ks your a** it goes down to 35% of your HM rake at some points

Respect to tevtonik for not buttoning me when the game broke. What a gentlemanly thing to do. It was a wonderful change of pace to meet a player that doesn't play any hands headsup if he doesn't want to play that game.

*** and others,

I have honest questions regarding behaviour during a table break.

In your opinion what is proper etiquette? When a table quickly falls apart I do a mix of things depending on how many tables I've got open, action elsewhere, etc:

1. Play a number of hands heads up, then usually quit after being the SB/button if nobody comes back. With a mix of raising or folding for the final hand, no real plan but it's not always after I take the blinds though obviously I'm raising a lot of buttons.
2. Quit pretty much immediately, usually after being the SB/button or from BU if 3-way.
3. Perhaps most often I'm the last guy there, just posted BB, folded to a raise and now the table is empty.

Note that I also start tables, including vs regs, so please don't frame the response in terms of being a chicken or whatever. Fwiw I'm a recreational reg.

What behaviour should I be doing? I don't like being in situation #3 all the time, so how exactly should I leave when I want to? Do you consider the above reasonable?

Cheers

I just try to remember to quit/sitout with rest if there isnt someone who have been willing to keep tables alive with me, but there is like 2 players who plays hu so its not that often you can keep playing. Just too tilting to be always the guy who have to post the last blind. One of my proudest moment as a poker player was when I succeed to steal fistis bb twice because of ongames "button bug", though he still is ahead like 114 blinds.

I think the question of etiquette is murky. It's definitely situational, and even players that hate what is going on have to find a balance between taking the action that is best for games over all and taking the action that is best for them at that table for that hand.

Against players that I know only play their button headsup, especially players that have buttoned me in the past, I will always try to button them. I will avoid posting the BB, and if I miss that chance I will try to play a SB/Button before leaving. It's the opposite of what I preach, but **** those guys. I can't be giving them a free headsup button every time the game breaks. I will also always button rob short stacks, even if they are willing to play headsup.

If it's a regular that I know will play headsup, or a regular I don't have enough experience with to know their tendencies, it depends whether I am in the mood for headsup. Sometimes I have too many tables to do so. If I am going to play headsup I just keep posting blinds, and if I am not I quit either before HU or after the first hand. I make no effort to get the last button - I will quit after the BB against regs I respect. I don't go out of my way to give away buttons to these players either though - if the game breaks and I get the luck of having the last button then I'll take it.

One other situation that has become frequent enough that it bears mentioning, is when it breaks to headsup with a player that will play HU but some idiot stays sitting out. I am less inclined to play these spots, and will never play if that idiot is ImBillGates/SpadeNeuterU/MissTurdBall/CerelCrepist. That guy loves to fake sit in and screw up the blind order, often causing me to post 2 BBs in a row every 10 hands. I sometimes apologise in chat to the reg when I quit in these situations, and sometimes I don't say peep and just expect them to understand that BillGates is a game ruining cheater.

I think your plan is reasonable, and if you are at a table of regs that you know are about to break a game there is no reason to post a BB, even if there are currently 5 players still sitting in. Yes it sucks that games break, but if you know HU won't happen with any of the players at the table there is no reason to get yourself into spot #3 just in the foolish hope that someone will stay.

YES! I think this guy has got me more than anyone else. He really led me along by playing me HU once or twice, but as it turns out it was just an investment to trick me into giving him over 9000 BBs in the future.

Fisti has been doing that also against me, dunno if its because I have been berating him a bit lately. I just think he is like "the face of the problems" we have at msnl nowadays so I have been kind of unleashing all my anger towards him. Though there is the bright side, if player like him can play poker as a professional I have no need to try improve my game.
