That is the main reason I have been playing deep tables. It just seems that every regular table I have looked at has 3+ 20BB shortstackers that totally )$*# the game. I don't mind mixing it up with a few shortstackers here and there but right now I'm trying to learn actual postflop poker and they aren't good for that.
The only problem I have is that when I'm up on a table then it does switch to a deepstack game and set over set @ 150+ BB hurts like hell. That beings said I can't bring myself to rathole just yet.
It is a good question whether the average level of play is better on deepstack tables though.... can anybody else chime in?
I don't think there's much of a difference if your own stack is only 100bbs deep. Maybe the % of regs is a bit higher.
If you're deeper effectively though, you have to adapt for deep stack play - think about implied odds and reverse implied odds a lot! Generally speaking, hands that suffer from RIO like top pair hands, overpairs and better even, go down in value and your implied odds hands go up in value, simply b/c there's more behind and people who are not experienced playing deep stack stack off too light. And then there's coolers: Cooler them more often than they cooler you
. Speaking about preflop, think about what hand you're likely going to flop and what your plan with different hand types will be. Hands that hit TP a lot like AK, AQ etc. are good to play a small-medium size pot with (unless they hit harder ofc). Hands that can flop huge are good to hit huge (lol, obviously) and play a big pot or no pot at all with (suited Aces, SCs, PPs).
One last thing: stacking off with bottom set on any dry flop for 200bbs every time is not as sexy as for 100bbs
Well, there's probably a lot more to consider, but I'm def not a deep stack specialist (nor a 100bb specialist
) or something myself.
