Turn: ($4.15) A (2 players)
BB checks, Hero checks

River: ($4.15) 8 (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $2.50, BB raises to $11.65, Hero ????

Stats:
BB: 26.1/10.9/2.0 (45 hand sample)

My thought process:
Preflop: BTN steal with 87o standard for me vs full stacks.

Flop: Hoped to pick up the pot there with a standard cbet, bet a bit more than half pot.

Turn: Figured out he might call with an ace or jack, or some FD. Check behind, hope to improve on the river

River: He checks to me, I think he would most certain bet an ace or flush for value, I make a small river bet, hoping to pick it up there or hoping he would call with KJ or QJ or something.

Dunno what to do with the checkraise. Is my thought process ok, and what to do on the river?

Discuss.

You have aces and eights, not eights and sevens, you lose to any jack and lose/chop to any 8. You should have checked behind on the river because there's no value to be had from any hand villain may hold, as played fold to the raise.

I don't think it is impossible for him to have a flush here, and the pot sized raise on the end is a big sign of strength. So, what else could he be doing this with besides a flush?

It seems like a flat-out bluff is the only other options. An 88 for a set could make sense, but it is just so unlikely because we hold an 8 and it would be a bizarre line.

Does anyone else think this is super polarized between flushes/air?

LOL this. I didn't think about the 2-pair being counterfitted.

100% check river, as played fold.
