This seems straightforward and well played. I'm mean, what's the question here? The villain's most likely holding is AK.

Raise seems bad because your turning your hand into a bluff. Versus a villian with no reads you want to keep his worse range still in. His airs and worse pairs. raising makes him fold out his worse hands and allows him to get it in ahead of you. Sure your hand needs protection. But don't be afraid to play post flop.

Are these elaborate levels or just really, really bad advice?

Flatting is an ok option, but so much of villain's range for 3 betting pre/cbetting this flop is stacking off now if you raise (but may not on future streets)-Ax/draws/weaker overpairs etc. Sizing should be smaller though so he has the illusion of some FE and more incentive to jam non-made hands. $7 or so seems good.

I don't like flatting either but if all the money goes in now we are not necessarily ahead of his range. Many of his drawing hands are either ahead of us or not far behind. It depends on how often he is willing to stack off with overpairs. If we flat there are so many scared cards that are likely to kill the action if he doesn't improve.
