It doesn't make sense for him to not show up with a jack here. He's either bluffing the river sensing weakness/fear from your river check or trying to squeeze value from a Jack he thinks is good. I'd probably just shove it in there myself on the river - getting called by AJ/KJ/QQ losing to JJ. Hell he could think he's good with 1010 or even might have 99 but I'd be happy enough pushing on the river

Betting is far better than check calling here, villain is possibly going to check back with some of his hands that would have called a bet.

There's not really any bluffs in villains range, so I don't think check calling accomplishes anything.
