Villain is 38/5/1.5 after ~100 hands. I've been pretty aggressive at this table but only shown down good hands.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.25 BB (9 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums)

BB ($25)
UTG ($26.60)
UTG+1 ($39.25)
MP1 ($36.15)
MP2 ($14.05)
MP3 ($21.35)
Hero ($63.45)
Button ($24.30)
SB ($8.20)

Preflop: Hero is CO with A, K.
5 folds, Hero raises to $1, 2 folds, BB calls $0.75.

Flop: ($2.10) 6, 6, 9 (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $1.5, BB calls $1.50.

Turn: ($5.10) 2 (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $3.5, BB calls $3.50.

River: ($12.10) A (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets?

Yuck. That was the worst possible card for you.

Check behind, you lose to trips (76/65 suited are likely) and any two spades. If villain really plays >35% of the hands, he must like draws.

You only beat a weaker ace and overplayed X9s. Would villain really check-call twice with such hands? Unlikely.

Would he c/r on the river with a flush? Not likely w/o specific reads. Also, I think you would have heard from trips by the turn.

He might have 97, 98, 9T...A9, a small poket pair, or 78. I would value bet the river

fwiw this is exactly what i was thinking on the river. But can a worse hand call and how much can it call?

Don't double barrel against calling stations. Check the turn.

As played, value bet river for like half-pot.

Check the turn behind for a freecard. That 2 didn't change anything in the hand; if he has a mediumpocketpair, a nine or a six he will not fold to your bet or worse he will checkraise you . (2) You might only chase out a flushdraw or straightdraw of which you are in front of at this point. If you have villain seen make loose calls with medium pocketpairs and a nine I would valuebet this, but otherwise I would just check here..

Why not bet turn here against calling station? I'd understand if you had said the same thing against a Lag. Is there any reading you'd recommend on this?

I would actually bet turn against a calling station because I know (a little better) what a c/r means on the turn. I would bet for value.

I'm not betting this turn against a calling station because I'm on a bluff having only A-high.

You only have A hi on the turn & calling stations will call you down w/ any part of the board (e.g., MPNK). a c/r may work, but why do it against a player that is unlikely to fold???

so you should wait until you hit your hand & then bet it for value.

so cbet on flop is fine. check on turn is good use of your position to see if you improve on the river. you improve on the river so bet the river for value.
