Villain is somewhere between Tag and Nit.

PokerStars - $0.25 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

Hero (MP): 101.84 BB
CO: 101.44 BB
BTN: 125.04 BB
SB: 134.52 BB
BB: 108.64 BB
UTG: 100.44 BB

SB posts SB 0.4 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.4 BB) Hero has 8 9

fold, Hero raises to 2.48 BB, fold, fold, fold, BB raises to 10 BB, Hero calls 7.52 BB

Flop: (20.4 BB, 2 players) J 9 3
BB bets 10.12 BB, Hero calls 10.12 BB

Turn: (40.64 BB, 2 players) K
BB bets 23.68 BB, Hero calls 23.68 BB

River: (88 BB, 2 players) 4
BB checks

Pre and flop seem standard to me, but what about turn? Do I have fold equity or is calling just better?

On the river I figure he's got some sort of showdown hand that can't bet for value again, or he gave up. Do I turn my hand into a bluff or just take my showdown? Is he possibly trapping with 2pair+?

I like a check - we have some showdown value if he was getting aggressive with AXs or something like that and got gun shy.

I would only rip it as a bluff here with hands that block the nut straight and some of Villain's top pair types of hands - something like AQ, AT, or T8 would do nicely. You could also turn QJ, JT, or T9 into a bluff (I would prefer the T, since you could fold out a Jack).

In choosing my bluff candidates, I would NOT want to hold a club - I want villain to have a club draw that missed and had to fold. This is especially true of broadway clubs.

Pretty comfortable calling turn with showdown value and the flush draw. Not bluffing river. We beat some flush draws and turned gutters.
