NL Holdem $0.10(BB) Replayer
Hero ($10.70)
BB ($14.37)
BTN ($13.85)

Dealt to Hero A J

BTN raises to $0.35, Hero calls $0.30, fold

FLOP ($0.80) 5 K A

Hero checks, BTN bets $0.60, Hero calls $0.60

TURN ($2) 5 K A 7

Hero checks, BTN bets $1.50, Hero calls $1.50

RIVER ($5) 5 K A 7 8

Hero checks, BTN bets $3.75, Hero ?

Villain is 22/19/0.8 over 50~ hands. I doubt his aggf is accurate.
I just call pre because I think he has many worse aces in his button open range. Do you 3bet? Do you call on the river as played? His 3/4 bets seem strong to me.

youve came this far why give up now? If your going to fold to a river bet, consider folding the turn.

I think a call pre (as opposed to a 3-bet) is fine most of the time, as you have little history with him and personally I think AJ tends to be more of a reverse implied odds type of hand for 3-betting purposes at $10 NL.

I think I take the same flop line but check/fold the turn. I think a majority of villains at $10 NL are weak/tight postflop, so while it's possible he's double barrelling a diamond draw, or A8, I just don't think you're ahead often enough to continue with this hand, and this board, when you're out of position.

If you were ahead on the turn, you're almost certainly ahead on the river. So don't call the turn if you're going to fold to a blank on the river. You played the hand so passively that you have no idea where you are. Putting a lot of money into the pot and then folding is very -EV.

I called on the river. I guess I should have folded on turn even though it looks so weak to me. He had AK.

Don't feel bad. 3 handed AJs is a huge hand, and you flopped top pair. Not much you could do about it.

I think that a donk bet on the flop will allow you to get a better feel for his hand, plus you have the chance to win the pot immediately

This is why I hate cold calling with stuff like AQ/AJ/AT/KQ/whatever from blinds vs button range. Leads into trouble.

You pretty much need to decide on turn whether there's sufficient amount of worse hands he can barrel with to go to showdown or not. If yes then river should be called. If not fold turn and save money. Calling turn only to fold in river if he bets never has worked out for me.

Playing from blinds suck. Calling 4 streets(pf included) leads to trouble. Opponent is the one deciding size of pot. He can take a stab and shutdown or barrel. And you have hard time figuring it. And once you called in turn you were pretty much screwed and had to hope he was on busted fd or something.
