I think playing looser first & learning how to tighten your range is actually better, so much two plus two logic of tight play n ranges overall has proven to be incorrect & i think its also just more fun to play wider, so i encourage op to continue to do it and adjust as he finds out what doesn't work.

Re: Playing loose before playing tight. If you can't win playing a TAG style first, you cannot ever win playing a LAG/Maniac style long term. The latter is so much harder to make profitable than the former. Not even close.

It can be close. It depends specifically on what the player's leaks are.

For example, if you are playing tight but your leaks are thinking that players are always playing back at you so you try to resteal wider and call down lighter you are probably going to be losing long term.

By changing your preflop strategy dramatically while retaining your original mindset your leaks could become strengths.

That is of course pretty player dependent. I would never actually recommend that somebody who is losing start playing lag.

I'm sure though that the optimal way to play 5NL or whatever OP plays would to be super lag because nits will let you get away with it and against fish your range is still super strong for getting lots of value.

So, when you're playing 25NL for example, or higher, how does typical LAG style work here, if it works fine on 2NL and 10NL? I'm just curious what to expect later on. You'd have to adjust your play more? I guess villains would be much more able to read you if you won't be much changing the style. On 2NL it's almost doesn't matter if you're being flexible or not.

It's not necessarily hate. It's more bemusement. The idea that someone cannot even break even/small winner playing TAG, but then moves on to crush the micros with a hyper lag style is absolutely ludicrous. All it proves is that the OP, and a few people in this thread, watch too much TV.
