Villian was 18/14 after ~30-40 hands. I had a pretty good run of cards so I was raising preflop more than usual.. so I was expecting people to play back at me more.

I folded because I was afraid of facing a set here and had no real history with the villian, but I thought it was a weird line to take if he had a set. He/She basically just shoved immediately after I c-bet. I'd expect him to c/c and raise on turn or c/r me on flop.. so thinking back he may have just had an over/under pair or some suited connector(that hit a pair)/Axs hand and wanted to steal the pot.

Should I just have called here? My c-bet probably could have been higher but I had historically been 2/3 c-betting so I didn't want to tip my hand.

3bet higher, imo. I'd 3bet to 60-70.
After I have done that, calling the flop would be really simple.

I'd still call here, tho. He might have 99-QQ pretty often.

I call this everytime......this could be any PP from 55-QQ........most of which you beat.

Fist pump call. You're up against a set less often than you're up again 99-QQ and other 1 pair hands. And if you think they're playing back at you, makes it even more of a call.

It's a 3b-pot = he has an overpair a lot more than he has a set. A 18/14 (altough 40 hands) isn't likely to call with 33,44 there. AA he is most likely 4betting so the only hand you're getting it in bad vs is 88.

does his bet sizing have anything to do with the strength of his hand?

that is a huge 3 bet shove..
