IQ test are a bad metric to determine intelligence IMO. Growing up I had to take a number of different IQ tests. First there are two main stream IQ test types, and each one has a different scale and focus area, and one can easily have 20pts different in each test. Second IQ are designed to test intelligence aptitude, and not actual knowledge/understanding. They are also age based, and have assumptions about what concepts one has be formally/informally educated on, so if someone is exposed to concepts at a young age the test will make bad assumptions and will sign an incorrect score. The two major IQ test also favor pattern and spacial relationships over most other categories, but recently it has been shown that people with physical disadvantages (such as near sightedness or color-blind) or correctable learning disabilities (such as dyslexia) will do poorer on these test than they should.

Also internet based IQ tests are very inaccurate as one can "improve" ones score with practice and familiarity with the format.

True that. Just like very few of us will be able to converge to our true winrates, we won't know our true intelligence.

Also:

Quote:
Einstein was clearly intelligent, but not outlandishly more so than his peers. "I have no special talents," he claimed, "I am only passionately curious." And again: "The contrast between the popular assessment of my powers ... and the reality is simply grotesque." Einstein credited his discoveries to imagination and pesky questioning more so than orthodox intelligence.
I believe he was being humble, but at the same time, it is 100% true that it doesn't matter if you have a Ferrari parked in your dome if you never take it out of the garage drive it.

I would bet that most of the people that are drawn here are in the upper percentiles of intelligence, what you would call gifted, but there probably aren't many true geniuses

You don't need to be super smart to play poker at a good level. Let's leave this thing alone. I expect the population avg to be about 5-10 points above avg just because most people who can/do use the computer will not be a ****** and poker attracts nerds like myself.

lol, coming to 2+2 and being surprised by a lot of high IQs is like going to a mensa meeting and being surprised everybody is smart.

Oh, and +1 to the comment someone made that it doesn't work the way you think it does.

I have no idea what my IQ is. I have taken a couple of online IQ tests, but I don't know how reliable they are, and they really struck me more as specialized spatial relation tests than general intelligence tests anyway.

I know what my mother told me my IQ was when I took the test in grade school, but mom+hearsay = lol.

FWIW, I took the poker IQ test and my result was exactly the same as the online IQ test I took most recently.

I've also taken several online IQ tests, but I think they all buff up your IQ score so you'll buy their detailed reports. I've scored as high as 147 and as low as 120. And even though I'd like to think I'm smarter than 80-90% of people, that's probably not true.

iq tests are just like every task in the world....if you practice enough at it you can train yourself to do it well. In that train of thought, it really is amazing why I can't fold KK Preflop to an UTG 4bet when I've been shown AA over and over and over again. It only takes one guy to show up with AKs there for me to shove the next 10 times.

The idea that you can measure intelligence quantitatively and along one dimension is rather silly. It's much like the equally silly idea that you can quantify the wealth of a nation through a measure such as GDP.

Don't normally post in this forum since I don't play NL, but thought I'd weigh in. I'm somehow a member of the Epimetheus society, a high-IQ soc for 164+, which is something like 1/50,000 people.
With that said, I still fall into the category of people who don't think IQ tests are everything. They only measure analytical skills and pattern recognition.
I just happen to be good at those

2+2 in general is going to be significantly above the norm, anyway, even if you only count IQ tests as being what I think they are, as detailed analysis and pattern recognition are two pretty vital poker skills imo.

L/C

Okay, I didn' read all of the posts, but, I feel like sharing my thoughts. Neither IQ nor test taking ability means jack for poker. I am a smart guy. Graduated from a fairly competive college with straight As in my major and something like a 3.8 over all. Scored in the top 7% or so on the LSAT (law school admission test). Graduuated in top 5% from a competive big city, east coast law school. Successful, big city law firm partner. But, I will probably NEVER be a great poker player because I lack the ability to read people and I don't have super strong math skills. I can get pretty good, but I will never be great.

The great thing about poker is that you can be a winner with very different skill sets. Some have an absolute killer ability to read players. Others have the math down pat. Still, others have the right combination of decent math skills and decent ability to read. That is what makes the pokers fun and interesting. So many different skill sets can lead to success.

I camouflage my intelligence well in this forum. As such, I choose not to answer the poll.
