That's great. The future Mrs. wants to go tubing on the Potomac at Harper's Ferry.

Me: Can we go on Sunday after work?
Her: You want to play poker, don't you
Me: *Giggles*

She's a good sport though. She will entertain herself with a mix of slots and roulette and has actually beaten me in profits on our last two trips. (She binks more roulette bets then anyone I have EVER gamboled with.)

Casual, out of the loop players, maybe. But they never had the volume of any of the other bigs. That, and they completely removed their HSNL games. I think 400nl may have been the biggest game you could get, and this is key to the poker room success, IMO. Fish like to swim around sharks, but not necessarily in the same pool. If you don't have the nosebleed stakes attracting attention, you're less likely to get the casual rec player, and that hurts us all.

That being said, I agree that the sharks will follow the fish, but it's a double edged sword. If FTP could come back and get the celebrity endorsements, it would still take a long time to rebuild the reputation. Poker players have long memories, and FTP has committed an atrocious violation of trust. The games would have to get really good at the mid-stakes before folks really start coming back en mass. You have to balance all these 'what if's' in light of new, regulated, US based companies with instant brand recognition like WSOP.

Put me in the "Cash Out as soon as possible and stay away for a while," category. I don't think they ever did anything nefarious, unlike Cerius who'll never, ever get any of my money, but it looks like they were negligent at the least and grossly incompetent at the worst. They just ate the loss of deposits that never got to them for a long time then got their legs cut out from under them by the DoJ. They should have had some kind of back up plan in place, or maybe stop honoring so many deposits they weren't getting. I guess that would have also hurt their brand, but it seems like the alternative has been worse.

I've run insane hot at blackjack with my wife sitting next to me. The one time she sat with me live, I got runner-runner quads with 88 and won a high hand jackpot at Mandalay.

But she's bored to tears by gambling in all forms, so most of the time she shops while I play poker. Word to the wise...you cannot win more than your wife can spend.

I'm not a US or FT player, but I would really like to see the US players back playing, hopefully not segregated unless its a step towards your freedom. How do US players feel about a segregated pool? You have the numbers for traffic to work and an economy with a relatively large amount of disposable income, or at least the US was a huge part of the poker economy so it could be in the future?

Circumstances....I've had some success as the only player at a single deck table playing $5min/$100max (and the $100max was my own limit). But counting in that circumstance is super easy, and you have all control over game speed. That, and you can bet like crazy when the deck goes +3.

I was already 80% convinced that Peyton Hillis was going to be a bust this year. This raised my confidence level to 98%.

Paying an ante to play BJ is....ridiculous. Even at $100 hand you're doubling their edge.

I have a thing about having her sit with me at the poker table. I generally don't like it when other people do it, so she pretty much knows not to come into the room with plans to stay.

Another bonus about Charlestown- there's basically zero places to shop!

The US will own the poker market when it's legislated, even though it will take some time. At first, I expect it will be US only, then will open up to foreign players after a period of 6-18 months. They'll be able to force companies to license and locate in the US if they want to offer games to US citizens. If they go for a deposit based tax (very likely, site paid), it means the US gov't just expanded it's tax reach to all depositing players, US citizen or not.

Don't know yet if it will be good or bad for the games, overall. I lean towards optimistic.

Yeah, my main room is WinStar when we're in Dallas, or Inn of the Mountain Gods when we're in Ruidoso, and she doesn't go with me to those. It's only an issue when we go to Vegas, but those are really get-away vacations for us (lots of shows, shopping, laze by the pool, etc), so I'm not looking for it to be a profitable poker trip. That being said, I've paid for our last two trips out there at the poker table. Bally's is super soft, O'Shea's is super fun, and Mandalay is super juicy if you get the convention crowd.

Makes sense. The deep buy-in 2/5 at the Mandalay is the most under-rated low-limit game in town.

I haven't brought the lady to Vegas yet. Those have always been "business" trips...

Lacking checkboxes above imo
09-01-2011 , 11:22 AM
Six posts is very weak, I'll have to work on that.

The whining about FTP is getting old IMO.

I recently went to a casino for the first time. I don't think I'll be returning there anytime soon.

Your whining about the whining about FTP is getting old. I bet you'd change your tune if you had money stuck on there.

Last time I cashed out Mandalay, cashier says 'Nice run at the 2/5 table?'. It was all from 1/2. It's a beautiful thing needing 3 racks to walk from the 1/2 table.
09-01-2011 , 11:26 AM
Well, yeah. You don't go to O'Shea's to get rich, you go there to get blind drunk and be told that you had a great time when you wake up, after blacking out.
09-01-2011 , 11:29 AM
Yeah...I don't get why O'Shea's is one of a kind. I mean, it's asses to elbows packed from front to back every time I've been, and everyone is having a hell of a time. Other casinos just seem boring by comparison.
09-01-2011 , 11:32 AM
I've never been to Vegas.

Haha, I was going to post almost the same thing verbatim.

Or are they?
