in general, open limping is a bad idea. You are helping people target your hand range if you raise with one set of hands and limp with another set.
It's good that you're thinking steps ahead ("if I raise and I'm reraised, what do I do?"), but you can't discount the situation NOW, before that possible reraise. 88 at a four handed table is a strong hand. Raise for value. If you are reraised, then take that situation into account at that time, based on opponent/stacks/position, etc.
