thats one screenshot of 12 tables tiled on 1920x1200. u can just shrink em down to their smallest size, move em around, then use the stars view-> layout feature to save their locations.

Thanks for the picture.

Your eyesight must be pretty good cause I can't see **** with very small tables like this.

9 tables on a 24" is the maximum I can handle and I need a 30" to be able to play 12 tables.

So I've always been curious about how many tables people play and the reasoning behind it. I searched the forums for awhile and although there was advice on increasing tables etc. I didn't find a thread like this one.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this thread but this is pretty much the only place I post on 2p2 so I figured why not.

Now we all the know the concept that in order to maximize profits sometimes we need to either add more tables or lose some.

Question

What is the magic number of tables for everyone, why this is, and at what stakes? Also do you prefer to play fast tables or regular speed tables. Personally I pick whichever has the better table but I don't find myself timing out with 9 fast tables. (I'm not using tableninja anymore)

For me a lot of times it is circumstantial. If I'm browsing the web/2p2 I'll generally be playing 1 or 2 tables. However if I'm having a serious session then I like to have about 8-9 tables going and just blast some music. The problem I have is that I could probably handle 11-12 tables but my monitor is too small without having serious overlapping issues. Another thing I like to do is whenever I'm moving up in stakes I like to lower my tables and gradually build it back up to 9 once I have a decent sized HH of dangerous opponents.

Answer

I play 9 tables of 10NL on stars with a single 18 inch monitor what about you guys?

Earlier this summer when I was playing NL10 I mindlessly 20-tabled.
NL25 dropped it to 10-12.
Now at NL50 it's 6 or rarely 8.

Maybe playing more tables would give me a higher hourly, maybe I'd tilt off hundreds. I don't really care. I'm comfortable playing fewer and since dropping tables my winrate has gone way up and my game has constantly improved. If for whatever reason I dropped back to NL10 I'd probably go back to 20-tabling because I feel I could maintain a pretty solid edge there, but as long as I'm playing with people that have a pulse I like being able to think through decisions. I feel like this is best for me in the long run and will allow me to be successful when I move up (something that didn't happen the first time around).

fwiw I'm on a 15inch laptop

I don't think it's very smart to play 20 tables of 6max at any stakes regardless of your edge.

Yea as long as I don't start dozing off and go into autopilot (which I normally notice now and either take a break or fix it) I find that I can make good decisions without timing out at 9 fast tables.

20 tables making 1bb/100 is better than 4 tables making 4bb/100. It's all about finding that perfect number that maximizes your profits. That's what I'm curious about and why I started this thread.

1 table... 2 if you're capable of it... and utilize the full potential of your brain. With every table you add you lose a bit of your ability to maximize each and every hand, at each and every table. And even if you're a winning player, if you play too many tables you may only break even because of the rake.

This is good too, because It should really help to develop your poker game. You're not mindlessly click click fold, waiting around for really good hands in really good spots hoping to extract from fish. You're making the best decision the best time against every player. This should help as you advance up the levels.

In all honesty, they're almost entirely two different versions of poker. I've played both, as long as theres money to be made, I like 1 or 2 tables. Although I understand the appeal of multitabling.

(This advise is for 6 max btw, i'd be much more inclined to multi full table)

If your goal in poker is to make profit then this post is so wrong it's not even funny. If your goal in poker is to have fun and outplay your opponents OR if your goal in poker is to make the most possible BB/100 then your post makes a little sense. (But still not that much)

I'm going to sleep right now but tomorrow I'll post an explanation or hopefully someone else will explain to you the error of your ways.

If you're a good player it doesn't matter how many tables you play, you'll steadily make money. And you'll maximize your profit at 1 table if you're only playing 1 table (as opposed to 10). The goal is to steadily make money and steadily improve your poker game, so when you to get to what 600nl, you're gonna be playing 1 maybe 2 tables. You really need your concentration with that much money against those good players. If you're strictly a 25nl multitabler and try and play at those levels im pretty sure you'd suck.
